Red Screen Log in Failure

When I try to login in to my computer which was working fine and then suddenly wasn't I get this error message set against a red screen:

The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.

User profile cannot be loaded.

If I enter an incorrect password, I get a password incorrect error message. I have never seen or heard of this error before. 

It is an older computer running OS 10.

I don't know exactly when it started as my computer was on and put in and out of sleep mode. I had the issue first occur on Saturday, March 18. I had previously used my computer earlier in the week without any issues.

I did not make any changes however I know one of my other computers did have updates, but unless the OS forced them through while I was away, I am unaware of any changes.

Have not done much trouble shooting. Rebooted it and tried different logins which give a different failure message.

Have you tried restarting your PC in Safe Mode with Networking? This will start Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. Kindly check this link as a guide on starting your PC in Safe Mode in Windows 10.

Apparently the fourth restart was the charm. It's suddenly working again although it took longer to login and bootup than normal. There was a background screen for personalized settings that was visible for at least a minute that I've never seen before.
