Receiver error code 800B0100 for multiple KB updates

I receive error code 800B0100 when attempting to install any one of the following KB updates on my Windows 7 Home Premium system:

KB2984972

KB2992611

KB3003743

KB3011780

This has been the case since September (9/11 oddly enough).  I have tried using the Windows Update Diagnostic tool with no success.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

To troubleshoot most computer problems it helps to look at available clues in the System Information file and the Event Viewer logs. An experienced eye can pick out the needles in the haystack and see more clearly the precise nature of the problem or problems.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your OneDrive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702/en-gb

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click Command Prompt, and click Run as administrator from the drop down menu.. Type cd\ and press ENTER. Type "chkdsk c: /r" without the quotes and hit ENTER. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. Enter Y when asked whether you wish to run chkdsk on restarting the computer. Type exit, press the ENTER key and restart the computer.

Please run System File Checker and say if it cannot fix corrupted files:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Download and run the System Update Readiness Tool -64 bit version
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858

The System Update Readiness Tool creates a log file that captures any issues that the tool found or fixed. The log file is located at the following location:
•%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
•%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

The system root is normally C.

Please upload a copy of these logs to your OneDrive as shared files and post a link here.

Okay, I ran the above checks and have posted the logs on OneDrive:

http://1drv.ms/1xxmUMQ

Windows Troubleshooter Results:

win_update_troubleshoot.jpg

background_intelligent_transfer_service_troubleshoot.jpg

Chkdsk result:

chkdsk_log.txt

SFC result:

sfg.jpg

System Update Readiness Tool results:

CheckSUR.log

CheckSUR_persist.log

Note that the CheckSUR logs are from before the other checks because the link to the System Update Readiness Tool doesn't seem to be working in the last couple days.  This seems to provide some relevant info though as it is indicating that some amd64 files are corrupted for the KB updates.

It works for me. However, you may encounter some problems accessing some Microsoft web pages. One workaround if it has the word support in the address is to add the number 2 so that it reads support2.

The problem in the checksur log relates to KB2982378.

The good news is that I am able to access the link to download the troubleshooter now (note that after running it again it reports the same corrupted files as listed earlier).  The bad news is that the KB2982378 installation didn't complete.  I got a window stating that 'Some updates were not installed' and then it listed KB2982378 as the update that was not installed.

So I went back to the event log viewer and saved the error messages that seemed to correspond to this installation.  They are stored on OneDrive as updated_failed_event_log.txt.  I'm not sure what to make of them though.

Notwithstanding you should be trying to install the update. You download and save the download. You then extract the files and follow the instructions in  -How to fix errors found in the CheckSUR.log

http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2700601

  1. To start the download, click the Download button and then do one of the following, or select another language from Change Language and then click Change.
  2. Click Save to copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time.

I followed the instructions in the link to place the file in teh Windows/Temp/CheckSUR/Packages directory and after running the System Update Readiness tool, it indicated that the installation completed successfully.  However, when I looked at the CheckSUR.log, it indicated the same files were unavailable.  Running the Windows Updater subsequently yielded the same 4 errors.  I'll be on travel until Sunday but if you have any other suggestions, I'll try them when I get back.
