Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG wireless fails to connect after successful WPA2-PSK authentication

ASUS S202E laptop, Win10 build 10586.3

WiFi driver 10.0.0.321

Of all the WiFi devices we have, only the ASUS fails to connect.

This includes two Winphones, one Android phone, a MacPro, iPad, and a Surface Pro (v1) - all connect and work perfectly, so it's not the WiFi itself.

When I take the ASUS to school (CWU), it connects (they use WPA2-Ent).

Before Win10, I was able to use an older (read: Win7) driver, but ASUS no longer offers it.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I've already been through all that before posting.

it serves no purpose other than to waste time.

As I said, this was once resolvable by using a Win7 driver that is no longer available through ASUS (Qualcomm does not make OEM drivers available to end users).

Apparently, I've been somewhat less than clear.

The problem is not resolved.

The patellar-reflex response you provided was not helpful.

Hi Jimmy,

Thank you for keeping us posted regarding the issue.

I would suggest you to try the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1: Safe Mode with networking

Boot your computer in safe mode with networking and check if you are able to connect to the internet.

Refer to the steps given in the article on How to Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

Method 2: Reset TCP/IP and Flush DNS

Step 1Reset TCP/IP
One of the components of the Internet connection on your computer is a built-in set of instructions called TCP/IP. TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or corrupted.

Follow the steps below to reset the winsock entries and TCP/IP stack and to troubleshoot the issue further.

a) Press Windows Key + X together and select Command Prompt (admin).

b) Type the following command and hit Enter after each:

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

c) Reboot the computer and check.

Step 2: Flush your computer's DNS cache.

a) Press Windows Key + X together and select Command Prompt(admin).

b) At the command prompt, type the following commands. Press Enter after each command.

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Get back to us with the response. We will be glad to help if you need further assistance.

You must be an auto-response program, because you're certainly not exhibiting any of the creative thought processes that I'd expect of an actual, knowledgeable human being.

This driver never successfully authenticates with the WAP, nothing so you've suggested that involves the TCP/IP stack is relevant or useful.

Safe Mode with networking uses the same driver that normal Windows operation uses, so that does not help, either.

As I said - I've used an older driver that allowed this to work, but that driver is no longer available.

If you have any suggestions or tools that will help in actually debugging the WPA2-PSK authentication functionality of this driver, I'm happy to engage those efforts.

If you insist on simply regurgistating a standard script, then please hand this off to someone else.

The drivers provided by that site are just .inf, .cat, and .sys files. in order to install a driver in compatibility mode, you must have an .exe installer application, which these lack.

Interestingly, the site does have newer Win10 drivers that actually work:

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the update.

If even after running the new adapters doesn't connect you with the internet, the issue might also arise due to the firewall intervention from the security software installed in the system. I would suggest you to disable any third party security software (preferably uninstall it temporarily) installed in the system and check if it helps.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Let us know the results.

Regards,

Harkanwar

I have the same issue and tried the ipconfig/flushdns, ipconfig/registerdns, ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew commands. The renew command did not work. I received the following messages.

No operation can be performed on Ethernet while it has its media disconnected.

No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection 16 while it has its media disconnected.

No operation can be performed on Bluetooth Network Connection while it has its media disconnected.

How do I correct this? Thanks.

Did you ever fix it? I also can't get my wifi to work and am just going to rollback to windows 7 as no driver on Atheros.cz has helped at all, I've tried them all.
