Proxy error happens daily or every 2 days

I have a Dell Inspiron 7559 that has been working great.

Recently, I bought a new Dell G3 3579.  Both connected to Microsoft account, different users but same account.

Ever since I bought the new G3 the old 7559 has issues connecting to the internet due to proxy error, every day or two requires reset.

Issue presents when I open Chrome, no internet connection.  Says ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED

Same with Firefox and IE.   I verify connection to network is fine.

My solution, Network Reset and restart computer.  Reconnect and all works fine.

I believe I tried everything to no avail.  I even traveled to my parents house on their internet.  After a day or 2 same issue and same reset needed.  (In both cases my computer was also on network with no issues, I keep thinking they are somehow connected messing up the old computer proxy)

Proxy Settings:

  • Automatically Detect Setting is ON
  • Use Setup Script is OFF
  • Manual proxy setup is OFF

Very frustrating since my wife is non-techy and I need to be present to reset every morning.

Any help would be great.  (I downloaded and ran malwarebytes and CCleaner, no help)

Windows 10 Version:  10.0.18362 Build 18362

This has been happening for a few months, finally decided to send this request.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly.  I am new to posting, so thought this would take a while.  I will check more often.

I know I have done those steps before, however, I will make sure to run those steps again next time it happens.

It happened today but already reset with my other steps.  When it happens again tomorrow, I will run your steps.  This will clear it up and then I will check the next day.  Most likely it will then happen again.  This will take 2 days before I can respond if this did not work.

Note, other things I tried.  When I got the error, I turned off my firewall/virus protect to see if it was blocking.  Still get the issue. Then turned both back on.  I use Microsoft for FW and virus.  I also tried downloading Malwarebytes and ran against system.  No help.

Look for another response from me on Saturday or Sunday.

Thank you!

Rob

Hello Brian,

Finally I was able to try your steps.  I created an admin script called networkreset.bat.  Here is the text:

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

shutdown /r

When the proxy error happened again, could not access any site through my browser.  I then ran your steps.  Worked great.  I like on reboot that I did not have to reconnect to the wifi like my network reset.  I was then able to get to my sites just fine.  However, a day or 2 later the same proxy error.  Just like before I could not access any site.  This time, I ran the script above and again, worked great.   However, I still have the problem.  In 1 or 2 days, I will get the proxy error once again requiring those steps and a complete reboot.  A real pain.

Any suggestions on what I can do to stop this cycle of resetting connection and reboot every 1 to 2 days due to a proxy error?  It seems everyone tells me how to clear it, just not how to stop it continually happening.  I am ready to just re-image the computer.

Thanks,

Rob
