Problems with Windows Defender Antivirus

I recently bought a laptop with Windows 10 installed, but when I tried to perform a scan with Windows Defender, I got the message "Your IT administrator has limited access to some areas of this app, and the item you tried to access is not available. Contact IT helpdesk for more information"

I searched everywhere for a solution, but none was helpful, as I realised I have no Antivirus button on Windows Defender panel. The Antivirus & threat protection page is not available, and when I go to the settings is says I have no provider to the Antivirus.

I wonder how could I get it enabled and working, it is a very new laptop and I never installed any other antivirus.

Here are some printscreens of the home page of Windows Defender and the provider page

Hi there LeonardoBarreto1, I will be your Independent Advisor for today, I hope we can both resolve your problem.

Can you please check if you have any 3rd party Antivirus installed in your computer, if you have then that might be the reason why your Anti Virus has been disabled.
If none please try this.

Please try to run this on the Command prompt. To open command prompt type in CMD on the start menu right click and run as administrator.
Then run this command or copy and paste.

REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v DisableAntiSpyware

Make sure to reboot after.

Also please try to scan your PC with your third party anti-malware if you do not have one please try to check this site for downloads.

Your problem is the Windows 10 version you have.  It is one that has a volume license like you are on a domain, or it is for an enterprise, company school etc.

Thanks for the reply, I don't have a third party antivirus installed, as I thought Windows Defender was suppose to have one.

I tried running the code you sent me but I got "access denied"

Anyway, I will try installing another antivirus and perform a scan

That depends on how you got it.  If you purchased Windows 10 Pro and it was installed as Windows 10 Enterprise you can go to Windows support and get it corrected.

I just run a scan with avast and couldn't find anything wrong. But now the Virus & threat protection has appeared on Windows Defender, as it is linked to the Avast antivirus.

I think it's going to be okay now.

Thanks for your help

I have the same issue, however I am using a Windows 10 Home licence, not managed by an Administrator.  I don't have and don't want a 3rd party antivirus so that's not a solution.

I get the following popup:

I've checked the registry and there is no key for DisableAntiSpyware at all.  Multiple reboots, still won't start the service.
