Problems with dual monitor setup going dark

Hi all

I saw there are plenty of similar threads about this but none of the solutions are working for me.

I have a Lenovo Legion laptop with RTX 2060, DisplayPort cable connected to Samsung Odyssey G3 monitor. Running on 1920x1080 and 60 hz. All windows updates installed. All graphics card drivers up to date.

For whatever reason, I must have the monitors running in 'Extend' mode. If I try only running 2nd display (the Odyssey G3), the screen goes dark with a small white bar on the top, flickers for a moment and goes back to 'Extend' mode. It's driving me insane. I only want the 2nd monitor quite often, like when I'm watching a movie etc, but Windows won't let me, so I have to set brightness to 0 on the laptop monitor...

The same happens when I try to set 144 hz for the Odyssey, which is supported by my display port and by the monitor.

Before any of those time-wasting non-solutions are suggested, let me clarify:

1. Yes, my drivers are up to date

2. No, my RAM isn't broken

3. Yes, I have nVidia Control Panel installed. Neither the nVidia app nor the Microsoft 'Display settings' are letting me set 144 hz. Not to mention the extended monitor problem.

4. Yes, I tried on hdmi, same problem.

Try to troubleshoot the problem further and see if we can find a solution.

Sometimes, using a faulty or incompatible cable can cause display issues. Make sure the DisplayPort cable you're using is in good condition and is compatible with your monitor and graphics card. Also, Check if there are any firmware updates available for your monitor. Visit the manufacturer's website and see if there are any updates specifically addressing compatibility or display issues.

If possible, try using different DisplayPort or HDMI ports on both your laptop and the monitor. Also, consider testing with different cables to rule out any cable-related problems. Or you can try to clean the screen cache:

Clear screen cache: Windows key + R key to open the running window, enter regedit to open the registry, find the following directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers, right-click to delete the Configuration, Connectivity, ScaleFactors folders in this directory.

After restarting the computer, these three folders will be regenerated, and then connect the external screen.

Hi

Clearing cache helped with the problem of disabling laptop's monitor, thank you.

Unfortunately, the 144 hz remains. Whenever I try to turn it on, the screen goes black.

Samsung support was useless, Lenovo said that 'it should work', and the only ones who really tried were nVidia, but they ended up helpeless too.

HDMI and display port cables are both working, so I'm really confused as to what else I could do.
