Printers showing as "HP LaserJet M101-M106

Noticed this yesterday on multiple machines,

When viewing devices in the old Devices and Printers window, the printer icons are all HP printers including the built in Windows ones such as "Microsoft Print to PDF", and the "Model" also reads "HP LaserJet M101-M106" for all of them.

When viewing the Printer Properties, the driver and everything is accurate, so I'm thinking this is just a bug that was pushed out by Microsoft.

Is anyone experiencing this issue ?

It seems that HP submited a metadata in 2023/11/28 to windows Update which hardware id involved [printqueue],[LocalPrintQueue] and [PRINTENUM\LocalPrintQueue].

It caused Printer driver metadata modified in PC !

Hello YES I also have the same problem, all my printer icons have changed to the icon of an HP LaserJet M101-M106 printer.

Also all manufacturers have changed for HP and also all models for HP LaserJet M101-M106.

I deleted all the printers, all the ports and all the drivers and re-installed the printer and it gave the same problem.

Do you have any ideas ?

I have the same problem. Additionally, when I double click on one of the printer icons, a window opens and a message displays: No Tasks are available on this page

Shoveled everything I could. Unfortunately, I did not find which driver, the parameter that changes this data. As a result, I had to completely remove and replace a computer where there was no such problem, the registry branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print

and the folder:

C:\Windows\System32\spool

And only then everything became normal as it was and during the update it no longer crashed...

Good day

I have also experienced exact same issue as all the rest.

I tried several system restore points and uninstalled certain windows updates with no luck at all!

After some update the HP printer icons changed to missing icons for 2 devices and my Printer icons changed to yellow folders??

I just hope Microsoft can fix this issue a.s.a.p.!!!

The indication is that HP released an update with incorrect metadata. Where the device ID should be, it shows all local printers, hence the error.

The folder of metadata is: %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceMetadataCache\dmrccache\tr\d3a162c7-a388-4099-b63d-265639514cc0

Removing the folder and reinstalling the driver with correct metadata should resolve the issue.
