printer or windows 11 problem?

I have a MFC 6520DW printer/scanner since having to purchase a new laptop, running windows 11, it will not print in A4, it prints portrait A5. It prints A5 on an A4 sheet, the pages print 1 at a time and it will not scan properly.

Microsoft had a go at it and had no answer, referred to Brother, Brother says its microsoft problem.

I have lost count of the hours spent on this and also the number of times I have deleted drivers and reinstalled drivers.

    Hi glenrae57.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Your printer will automatically print A5 vertical layout content. I sympathize with your experience of both parties shirking responsibility. I will try my best to help you solve the problem. First of all, I would like to know what method you use to print what content? For example, print pictures through the right-click menu or print documents through Microsoft Office? Knowing these contents is very helpful to understand your problem.

Before understanding this information, you can try to modify the default settings of the printer:

    1. Press "win + i" to open the settings, and go to "Bluetooth and other devices"-"Printers and Scanners" in turn.
    2. Turn off the "Let Windows manage the default printer" option.
    3. Then select the default printer yourself. In the same interface, click "Set as default" to the right of the printer you use. Make sure "Default" appears under the printer
    4. Click the printer just set as default and select "Printer Preferences"
    5. Set the printing properties of the default printer, set the printing direction to the direction you want, and set the paper to A4, save the settings and exit.

If there is no problem with the printer hardware, you can print to A4 when printing with the default parameters.

Thank you for the reply, however, the settings are as you put in the reply, I think these were changed when microsoft staff or bots were attempting to assist me.

I am trying to print documents through Microsoft Office, going to file and then print.

its that bad that I would buy a new printer but i wont know if its got the same problem till I buy it.

What I can say is I can print perfectly from another laptop running windows 10.

    thanks Glen

Before you buy a new printer, I really hope to help you solve the problem. Because the cause of the problem is not yet known, a new printer may not solve the problem. Since you are using Office to print the document, the print settings in the software will actually override the printer's default settings. Try adjusting the print options of the software to see if the problem can be solved:

    1. Open a document file (you don't need many words, two pages are enough). Select "Layout" in the menu bar. Click the text in the document and press "Ctrl + A" to select all the content.
    2. Click "Paper Orientation" and "Paper Size" in "Layout". Select the orientation you want to print and A4. Then press "Ctrl + S" to save the document.
    3. Click "File" in the menu bar. Select "Print". Then the print interface will appear.
    4. Select the printer and click "Page Setup" at the bottom.
    5. Select the orientation you want to print in the "Margins" tab. Select "A4" in "Paper". Click OK.
    6. Go back to the print interface and make sure the option above the mouth in the settings is "Print all pages" and the option at the bottom is "Print one page per sheet".
    7. Click "Print" above.

If there is enough ink and paper, the entire document will be printed normally. If the printing is still abnormal, does the printer screen prompt any abnormal information?

The above steps prove that you are completely correct in the process of printing. Then this may be due to the interference of third-party software. You can exclude any third-party software by entering safe mode:

    1. Hold down shift and use "Restart" in the start button. After restarting, you can enter WinRE. If you cannot use the start menu, hold down the power button to turn off the computer, and then press the power button to turn it on. Repeat three times to enter.
    2. Click Troubleshooting--Advanced Options--Startup Settings Options.
    3. Click the "Restart" button.
    4. Select "Start Windows Safe Mode Environment" (F4)

Print the document in safe mode. If it can be printed normally, it proves that the interference is caused by third-party software. You may need to try to uninstall some software with higher permissions, such as third-party security software and computer management software pre-installed by the computer brand.

If your printing still has the same abnormality in safe mode, then this may be a damage to the system itself. You can try to use MediaCreationTool to repair the Windows system. (Usually this will not delete personal files, but for safety reasons, you still need to back up your files)

    1. Make sure that the C drive has 20G of free space. Visit the following website to download MediaCreationTool

    Download Windows 11

    1. Open the program and follow the software instructions until "Select installation media", select "ISO"
    2. Continue to follow the software instructions until the ISO installation media is generated.
    3. Open "Windows.iso"-"setup.exe" in sequence
    4. Continue to follow the software instructions until "Change what to keep", select to keep "Personal files and apps"
    5. During the installation of the system, your computer will automatically restart several times, please do not interfere and make sure to plug in the power supply.

After the end, your Windows system will be repaired.
