photoed.exe and Windows 10 doesn't launch

Original Title: photoed.exe and Windows 10

I have the original Photo Editor (from 1997 I suppose) which I have simply copied to new computers as I have upgraded and it has always worked fine. Now I have 2 computers with Windows 10. In earlier purchased laptop for which I updated to Windows 10 from 8.1 it works fine. But now I have a new desktop with pre-installed Windows 10 and the same copied exe-file won't start. There is no error message, it just won't start. I copied the registry items from regedit relevant to Photo Editor from the laptop to desktop but that didn't help. I suspect the difference between the laptop and the desktop is more general about how the computer deals with exe-files. Any suggestions?

Oh, btw, on the laptop as well as in Vista and perhaps earlier, when opening photoed gave error message "Registration/Unregistration failed" but still worked fine.

Hi Finlander,

I will be glad to help you with the issue you have with photoed.exe program.

The issue could occur if there are corruptions in the program or if the program is not compatible with the computer.

Please answer the following for us to assist you better:

1. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

2. How did you install the program on the computer?

I suggest you to run the program on compatibility mode and check if it helps. You can follow the below link to know how to run the program in compatibility mode:

Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows

Hope this information is helpful. Please post in case you have any further issues, we are happy to help you further.

Thank you.

Hi Ruth,

thanks for your help. Unfortunately compatibility mode did not solve the problem, tried just about every option.

Your questions:

1. brand new computer, few changes. I did install Office 2007 before importing photoed.exe

2. just copied all the files from the photoed folder to the new computer. This has worked many times before, including when I copied them to my laptop with Windows 10.

Also noticed the following difference between these two: laptop OS build: 10586.218, new computer OS build 10586.318. So something changed in the latest update to end compatibility?

I have this problem and I badly need THIS program!

When I upgraded (downgraded?) to Windows 10, Microsoft Photo Editor photoed.exe came along in the program files(X86) directory. When I ran it (in Windows 10) (my only Windows computer) it would say  Registration failed but opened and was usable. Suddenly it stopped opening, not even saying Registration failed! Now, for some unknown reason it just shows in the mumble window but the only thing I can do is close it. The troubleshooter says to Test it so I try to run it; nothing! Running as Administrator does nothing different.

Task Manager shows Microsoft Photo Editor(32 bit) and when I click it, shows Microsoft Photo Editor.

IOBit uninstaller does not show it.

What else can I try?
