photo viewer in windows 10 is rotating my raw photos

I am hoping this will be an easy solution.

I have always used the photo viewer in windows to see a larger version of my raw photos but, lately any vertical photos will flip sideways automatically.

When I try to rotate it, I now get

"That didn't work, RAW files don't rotate. Select edit to rotate and save it as a different file type.

This has never happened before. I work with multiple photos and I really don't want to  have to change.

Thank you in advance for any help/suggestions

Hello ChelleAnneParadis,

Thank you for reaching our Surface Community and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. I have few questions here to isolate the issue.

  • Which build and edition of Windows 10 are you using?
  • What are file types of the files you are trying to view?
  • Have you made any changes on your device before this issue happened?
  • What model of camera you are using for us to verify if the cameras you are using is Windows 10 supported.

In the meantime you can run our Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. It is a self-healing tool which looks for potential issues and fixes them, as well as ensures your device is completely up to date. Please let us know if that fixes the issue.

Thanks,
Karen

I have the same issue on a laptop with a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro.  My old lap top that was an upgrade from Win7 does not have this issue.  It displaying the image correctly, then rotates it to landscape (incorrect). Perhaps it is initially displaying the embedded jpeg  and respecting the orientation tag of the jpeg?   The raw files are Canon CR2 files.

I have the same problem.... Nikon D7200 and Nikon 3300 camera  Nef files (Raw Format) displaying sideways in Windows Photo Viewer. Windows 10. Was displaying properly until about a 3 weeks ago. Uninstalling and reinstalling app did not solve. Please solve this problem.  See photo attached. Thanks.
