OneDrive on Windows 11 - Does Not Appear in File Explorer

OneDrive appears to be successfully installed...no errors.

Symptom 1 - OneDrive does not appear in File Explorer

Symptom 2 - No 'Cloud' icon in the tray or any way to access options.

Symptom 3 - CAN access OneDrive folders in M365 apps (Word, Excel, etc.) with File - Open/Save/Save As (after sign in within the apps)

It's almost like OneDrive is allowed through M365 apps...but nowhere else.

I can uninstall and reinstall, but that makes no difference.

There are no policies set to prevent this, etc, etc.

What could possibly be causing this?

Hello SteveBovair

My name is Dayarys, I will try to help you.

These steps work for Windows 10 in these cases, try it on Windows 11.

-Try to reset the ODB client following this command line from Run

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

Wait at least 2 minutes, if Onedrive does not open by itself proceed to open it manually or from Run execute:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe

-In case the steps from above do not help, proceed to fully uninstall Onedrive

-To completely uninstall OneDrive:

Open Command Prompt in Administrator mode: Right-click on the Windows icon in the taskbar and select Command Prompt (Admin).

2. Type in taskkill /f /im OneDrive.exe to terminate any OneDrive processes and hit Enter.

Then type in either %SystemRoot%\System32\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall if you’re using 32-bit Windows 10 or

%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall if you’re using 64-bit Windows 10 and hit Enter.

After that Go to RegEdit on this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive

You can remove all folders that include OneDrive numeric version and from the Account, folders directory remove all the folders inside.

For the previous steps I recommend you to make a save of the Windows registry in case something goes wrong you can restore them:

After that restart the pc and install OneDrive latest version from this link:

Let us know if you need more help.

Sincerely,

Dayarys

Thanks for your help.

While it did not specifically solve my problem, it did lead me to discover what the issue was.

Despite there not being a specific Group Policy configured, I found the DisableFileSyncNGSC Key under KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\OneDrive was set to 1.

I set the DWORD to 0 and problem solved.
