Old recovery partition.....what do I do with it?

Hi there,

I have a HP laptop currently running Windows 10 AU....I have a partition on my HDD called RECOVERY. I assume this is the OEM recovery partition with windows 7 on it. Should I remove this partition and create a new partition with WINDOWS 10 recovery on it?

There is also a partition with HP Tools . should I get rid of this too?

Thanks

Rob

P.S.    I will wait a little to see how stable WINDOWS 10 AU is on my system before I attempt the change.

Hi Rob,

Please be informed that as the recovery partition is provided by OEM It is not mandatory to  remove this partition and create a new partition with Windows 10.

However, if you want to remove the partition you can do it by following the steps below:

  1. In Windows, search for and open Create and format hard disk partitions.
  2. Right-click the volume or partition you want to delete, and then select Delete Volume... from the drop-down menu.
  3. If you have backed up the data you want to keep, click Yes to continue.
  4. Right-click the drive where you want to add the unallocated space. Click Extend Volume... in the drop-down menu.
  5. Follow onscreen instruction.

To create a new partition, please follow the steps below:

1.In the start menu type recovery,

2.click on Create Recovery Drive

3.plug in an empty USB stick, follow instructions on screen.

Please post back if you need further assistance, we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you.

You must leave HP_TOOLS partition intact as it contains files for BIOS recovery in case your BIOS gets corrupted.

You may delete Recovery partition if you will never return to Windows 7. And for this computer you can re-install Windows 10 as many times as you wish without ever needing Windows 7.

Hope this helps.
