NVMe M.2 SSD not showing in Windows 11 Storage Spaces

I just "rebuilt", upgraded, my computer. I also upgraded to Windows 11. Everything went well. I used a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVMe M.2 4.0 for the main drive and installed qty. 3 Crucial P3 1TB PCIe Gen3 on the remaining three available slots for storage.

I can see the three Crucial drives in BIOS, Disk Manager, windows folder, etc. I can access them in Windows, they operate as normal drives. When I go to Storage Spaces and try to create one, no drives show up. Not any of the NVMe M.2 drives or even a separate Samsung 980 1TB ssd connected to a SATA port.

What do I need to change for the drive to appear?

Hardware:

Gigabyte Gaming X Z690

Intel i5 13th Gen

G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB DDR4 3600 CL16 1.35V Dual Channel

MSI 2060 Graphics Card

Regards, Tom

Did you try going here?: Go to Start > Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Storage spaces

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/storage-spaces-in-windows-b6c8b540-b8d8-fb8a-e7ab-4a75ba11f9f2#WindowsVersion=Windows_11

Is this what you are trying to do?:

Storage Spaces helps protect your data from drive failures and extend storage over time as you add drives to your PC. You can use Storage Spaces to group two or more drives together in a storage pool and then use capacity from that pool to create virtual drives called storage spaces. These storage spaces typically store two copies of your data so if one of your drives fails, you still have an intact copy of your data. If you run low on capacity, just add more drives to the storage pool.

How to create a storage space:

I believe these are the old control panel directions:

  1. Add or connect the drives that you want to group together with Storage Spaces.

  2. Go to the taskbar, type Storage Spaces in the search box, and select Storage Spaces from the list of search results.

  3. Select Create a new pool and storage space.

  4. Select the drives you want to add to the new storage space, and then select Create pool.

  5. Give the drive a name and letter, and then choose a layout. Two-way mirrorThree-way mirror, and Parity can help protect the files in the storage space from drive failure.

  6. Enter the maximum size the storage space can reach, and then select Create storage space.

Being that I rely on Microsoft 365, I have never created this type of storage space so someone else may be able to help better.

Hi Craig,

As I mention before, the process of going through the menus in settings to create the Storage Pool did not work.

The method you described here worked, but it did not create the storage pool. It looked like this was going to work, but then this error happened.

I closed the small window and it brought me back to the screen to create the pool, I tried it again and I got a different window looking like it wanted to format the drives to create the pool, so I did that and the second window posted here appeared.

Do I need to format these drives differently? If so, how or to what?

Edit: On the second try, a little window popped up and it looked like it was trying to format. The window disappeared quickly.

Thanks for your response,

Tom

Going through the Windows 11 settings did not work. Going through the steps you posted got me further, but still did not work.

I haven't messed with M.2 drives EVER lol, and I saw it in the BIOS, I just couldn't see it in Windows 11. If you see it in the BIOS, but not in Windows, follow this exactly. Mine is up and running. Now maybe Dead Space the remake will run properly lol. Who would think it would cost $135.00 upgrade just to play a game lol?
