Numerous WHEA-Logger Event ID 17 events culminating in a crash - system stable afterwards

Hi all,

I have a relatively new & self-built computer, running for about 1 month now.

Recently every time my PC starts up and I start using it normally (multi tasking, non-professional use like some Youtube on Chrome, some gaming older games in windows e.g. Civ4, some webbrowsing) it starts creating numerous Events 17, WHEA-Logger

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port

Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Primary Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x3:0x1

Secondary Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x0:0x0

Primary Device Name:PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1483&SUBSYS_87C01043&REV_00

Secondary Device Name:

This continues on for anything of 10 to 30 minutes, after which the system hard-crashes, auto rebooting. After that one crash it just continues to work normally without any issues, same usage.

Does anybody have an idea what this could be?

Hi meikiHO, I am Rob, an independent and a 14 time and dual award MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis. Please remember as independents we are not responsible for the development of Windows or the computer hardware and drivers. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

What are the specs for your system - Motherboard, CPU, GPU, PSU, memory, hard drive or SSD, and any other special devices

This could be a hardware error so you need to contact the motherboard maker's support for diagnostic help and possible RMA. Also, ask in their forums about any known issues as well as this specific one. The device is under warranty so their support will help you.

And it could just be an errant driver - probably the network device driver though it could be the video card or others.

A. Right Click the Start Button - Device Manager - look for any ! or ?. If there is one Right Click that Device - Uninstall - OK - then restart the computer. If that does not help go to the Device Maker's site - Download and Re-Install that driver. And you may have to do it manually if the auto-installer does not work.

B. If there are no ! - the 1st go to the Network adapters - Double Click the device you are using - Look at both the Events tab and the Details tab for PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1483&SUBSYS_87C01043&REV_00 - if not there check the Display adapter and so on - when you find it that is the device you need to work with as in A.

Be sure to contact that motherboard, video card, or whatever component that device is on. There could be continuing problems with that device since it could a hardware problem as the root cause.

Rob

Hi Rob,

First of all: thanks for your effort! Greatly appreciated.

1. System Specs:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900x

ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming

4x16GB Vengeance 2666-16

be quiet! 850W Platinum

1x970 Samsung Evo Plus 970 1TB M.2

2xSamsung 860QVD 4TB

Asus 8GB D6 RX5700XT ROG STRIX OC

2. No obvious issues in device manager, so I went hunting:

- the error appears to be linked to the PCI Express Upstream Switch Port device, and when looking into all events it appears that both Ports report these warnings.

I have added a screenshot.

I did not yet dare and remove them yet. Not sure why. (: Will first backup some files.

Hi Rob,

seems I looked incorrectly. With this update I understand that I was looking at the "parent device" and thus below answer might be wrong.

I will check again.

Michael

Double check that it also appears in that Device's - Details tab - Hardware ID's

----

Did you check the other devices starting with the top device in Device Manager? Please do that since you have found a System device.

If you find any others do A. above on all.

When you have checked all the others do A. on that device.

If you are worried create a Restore Point first.

Start - type in --> create a restore point - Find at top and click on it.

Hi Rob,

I went through the whole list once more:

Unfortunately I still arrive at the (nearly) the same result. Since my frequent warning events leading to the crash are logged on two different devices I rechecked for both just to be sure:

However, I also found a section called other devices that have small ? indicators, but I assure you the Hardware ID's are not maching:

Does this help along at all?

I backed up my files and created a restore point!

Once more thanks for your efforts, and your patience!

Cheers,

Michael
