Non Detectable Camera after Windows 11 Update on HP Spectre x360

Hi,

For months now my device (HP Spectre x360 convertible laptop) has not had a working camera, and as far as I can recall, this is since the Windows 11 update. The camera is built into the device and my camera kill switch is set to enable the camera. Not a single app can identify my camera, and Microsoft gives me the error code: 0XA00F4244

I have tried everything to regain access to my camera but to no avail. I have reset my device to previous updates, attempted to refresh and restart several camera relating apps as well as reinstalled the camera driver. My device manager does not even detect that the device has a camera, and HP support does not have a camera device for me to install, therefore I cannot reinstall the camera.

I have looked at other forums, and community pages, as well as spoken to a member of HP customer service and support online and no one has been able to resolve this problem. Is there a windows 11 camera driver that I can install to resolve this problem or does anyone have any other ideas of what can be done? Having a camera is critical for the work that I do as I participate in a lot of online video calls.

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

Did you already check in device manager if the camera driver is not hidden there?

Open device manager by right-clicking the Windows logo and then click device manager.

In device manager, click view>show hidden devices.

If you can see now your camera after that, double-click camera to expand it then right-click your camera driver then click uninstall device. After that, restart the laptop so Windows can try to reinstall the driver.

There are a lot of reports of camera driver loss after updating to Windows 11 since last year, especially on HP laptops. The problem is HP doesn't provide the camera driver for download on their support website.

Mostly, the users that have solved this issue are either the reinstallation in device manager works, HP support provided them the camera driver, or resetting Windows to factory defaults.

Let me know if this information will help you.

Thank you.

Hi Nicole,

Thank you for your quick response!

I have attempted to see if the camera is in the "hidden devices" section but unfortunately, it does not show, and therefore I cannot reinstall it through device manager.

Do you know how I am able to contact HP support for the camera driver? I can't seem to find a way to contact them to obtain that download and like you said it is not available on the support website. As previously stated, I have had an online chat with a HP customer and service support employee but they weren't able to provide me with that download either.

Hi again.

The only link that I've known and provided to other users is this.

https://www.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/contact.html

The worst-case scenario is HP hasn't yet released the camera driver for your laptop model which already happened to other models and brands of laptops.

Unfortunately, you may need to factory reset the laptop since you need the camera for work.

Just wondering, did you try to install the Microsoft update catalog provided on the thread that I've shared? Here is the link.

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search...

Download and install the first item on the link then restart your system. Try it first before you decide to do a factory reset.

Thank you.

I did attempt to install the driver from the Microsoft update catalog but this did not work either. I will contact Microsoft with the link you sent and hope that they are able to send another driver to me. If not, I guess I will have to attempt the factory reset once I back up everything on the PC in case I lose any files.

Thank you for all your tips and suggestions Nicole.
