No startup sound in Windows 10

Original title: Windows 10 startup sound

Why doesn't Windows 10 have a startup sound?  I tried to  click on the option to play windows startup sound.  But I get nothing.

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum. I will certainly help you with this.

Let me ask you;

  1. What is the make and model of your computer?
  2. Are you able to hear other sound on the computer?

This could be possible if the sound driver is not compatible.

Method 1: Update sound adapter driver.

Step 1: Check for the latest driver update through Windows Updates.

  1. At the Start screen, type Windows Update.
  2. Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results.
  3. When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates.

Incompatible or not properly installed graphics card drivers are the most common cause of this issue.

Step 2: Follow the steps below to update the sound drivers.

  1. Press Windows + X key on the keyboard.
  2. Go to device manager.
  3. Right-click your sound/audio device.
  4. Click Update Driver Software and then follow the steps in the wizard that appears.

Method 2: Update the latest drivers from the website.

Go to the manufacturer’s website and update the drivers.

Hi Isha.  My computer is a Dell Inspiron 560s and yes I can hear other sounds on my computer.  Does Windows 10 even have a startup sound?  I tried the above steps and I hear no startup sounds.

I'm wondering also.  My PC has sound, all drivers are present...Windows 10 Pro has every update.  I've went to Personalization/Themes/Advanced sound settings and made sure that "Play Windows Startup sound" is checked.  Doesn't seem to work.

I'm tried everything updating my sound card drivers and so forth.  Nothing seems to work!

I have exact same issue on my laptop. I think there is no startup sound in Windows 10. I did all what you have explained even before seeing this. I even called Dell tech support, and they asked me to contact Microsoft. All other sounds work well and the drivers are the latest updated one. I also tried a clean install of windows, still no startup sound.

I tried everything as well Alvin.  It's seems kinda weird if they didn't include a startup sound.  Windows have been known for that over the years.
