Please Help! Plugged in a monitor to my laptop with Nvidia 3060 through an HDMI cord and switched on HDR in Windows 10. Now the second monitor is not being recognized and there is no option to turn off HDR in Windows. Windows will not let me Extend the display to the new monitor. Monitor is just black screen. Option under Display option says Disable this Monitor. System Restore point has been done. Nvidia Drivers have all been updated. Windows Update has been performed. Do not want to fresh install windows and loose all my data. Why is this happening?

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, this actually happen when there is an incompatibility between the display driver and the system, for us to fix the issue, kindly follow the steps below:
We need to run a Clean installation of the Nvidia driver, after that, it will be all good, kindly follow the steps from this link:
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/...

Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.
If none will work from the above solution, I suggest doing an in-place upgrade wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.
Note: before doing this make sure to create a restore point: https://support.microsoft.com/en-hk/help/402753...
1. go to this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
2. Select Download Now, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
3. On the License terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept.
4. On the What do you want to do? page, select Upgrade this PC now, and then select Next.
5. After downloading and installing, it should fix the issue.

Let me know how it goes and I hope that helps.

Thank you Bernard for your response. But this did not solve the problem. I followed the steps to reinstall the Nvidia Driver and the hdr setting in Windows is still missing (no option to turn it off) and the monitor is still black and not being able to receive a signal. I have tried multiple HDMI cables also. My MSI laptop doesnt have a DVI port so i can only use HDMI. Windows Display settings wont even let me Extend the Desktop due to the monitor not being recognized. The monitor is working because I use it for my Xbox. Now if i plug in the monitor using a HDMI to USB display adapter, Windows recognizes it but not at the monitors resolution, and there is still no HDR on/off button in the Windows Display Setting for that monitor. If i update to Windows 11 will it reset the HDMI display port settings? Will everything be lost data wise?

Thanks again. Will upgrading to Windows 11 fix the problem? Is upgrading to Win 11 technically a fresh install of Windows?
Also, I would like to try the System Repair. What are the steps for that?
Is there any way to remove the monitor from Windows completely? Like all trace of it. I plugged another monitor in to that HDMI port and it worked. It's seems Windows is remembering the setting for that monitor when I plug it in.
Thanks again for any info you can provide.

Hello, so i followed the link, downloaded the program and apparently reinstalled windows 10. Didnt see anything about a system repair. After going through all that there was no change. Still have the same problem. It wont let me change to Extend This Desktop under the settings. I NEED to delete all reference to this Monitor so Windows doesnt rememeber the settings. The Nvidia 3060 is working fine because i plugged another monitor into the HDMI Nvidia slot and it worked perfectly fine. This monitor worked perfectly fine until i turned on the HDR mode in Windows 10. Ive included pics of what my Display settings looks like.

Thanks again for trying to help me. See the thing is the monitor is HDR capable. The monitor was 100% working before HDR mode was turned on through Windows. Windows 10 offered me the option to turn HDR mode on for this monitor. I have 3 monitors (the laptop screen, another monitor connected through a USB to HDMI connector, and this monitor connect right to the laptop by hdmi). Then I turned on HDR mode for the monitor connected directly to the HDMI port and that caused the issue. Why would Windows give me the option to turn on HDR mode if the monitor wasn't compatible. It doesn't offer it for the other monitor I have that isn't compatible.
The real problem here is that I should be able to turn off HDR mode and Windows is not allowing that, as you can see in the one picture. There is no option to turn it back off.
Any other options?

1) Try these fixes for known issue of second monitor not being detected:
https://helpdeskgeek.com/help-desk/what-to-do-w...
https://windows101tricks.com/second-monitor-not...
https://helpdeskgeek.com/help-desk/what-to-do-w...

2) The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:
First make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.
If necessary first remove the old driver using DDU https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-t... (not necessary with Microsoft Basic driver which is a placeholder if nothing else is available) and/or install in Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet), or Safe Mode, accessed by one of these methods: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...
While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.
If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...
or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...
or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...
For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.
You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.
Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.
Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.
Then watch WIndows Updates which may push a new monitor driver based on the display driver you now have installed.
Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
