No Internet access since McAfee cancellation

Have a Dell Notebook. Never had any problems till now accessing internet. It might be a coincidence but my McAfee subscription ended today and now I can't access Internet. I have an iPad and other PC's which can access fine. I am seeing the little bars in the left corner with a yellow exclamation mark. I have network access but can't get on Internet. Doesnt resolve it when I plug an Ethernet cable straight in (which worked last time I had a similar problem.)
When I do the diagnostic checks it says "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I have looked this up on other forums and done the suggested and checked the suggested settings - I.e. made sure the network discovery is on and checked for driver updates.
Any help welcome....
Thanks

Uninstall McAfee through Control Panel and use the McAfee Removal Tool.    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Did you install another AV program wihout uninstalling McAfee?  If so, that might be causing a problem.

Then try to repair your internet connection....see if right clicking on the icon in your tray will give you an option to repair the connection.

Have you read this? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

Is this a new computer?  You might be able to reset the computer back to factory default and that might fix it.  If still under warranty, call Dell!

And keep monitoring this thread for suggestions...there's several posters on this Networking Forum (not referring to me when I say this) who are pretty sharp at resolving issues such as yours.

Good luck...

Thanks for the reply.

I had already unistalled McAfee and repair the inernet connection, no joy. I didn't install any other AV software.

Computer not new but I guess I could try resetting - that seems a bit drastic, since it worked one day, then not the next - there must be something somwhere causing the problem.....

I saw the link about resetting the TCP/IP, problem with that is that the more user friendly approach requires an internet conection to do it! I can't run this on my iPad. I could try the more techie option but that looks a little beyond my abilities.

Anyone else, any other ideas i could try???

The key seems to be the error message I get : "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration - although I guess that could be a red herring?

Did you run the McAfee Removal Tool to ensure McAfee didn't leave vestiges in the firewall that might interfere with the Windows FW settings?

Let's try a more direct route since you can't make a connection using ethernet or wireless.

Contact support at your ISP and see if they can fix it or tell you what your best solution might be..maybe you've got to register that computer again for some reason.

And see if you find any ideas in this thread: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f31/solved-wireless-network-connection-doesnt-have-a-valid-ip-configuration-617004.html

And this thread gives all sorts of ideas: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/wireless-network-connection-doesnt-have-valid-ip/60d716ee-bb95-4526-a95a-3276f2fe6305?page=2

OK.
I called my ISP and unsurprisingly they weren't interested as I have no problem with an Internet connection on other computers.
So I called Dell, they told me the removal of McAfee was the cause as this makes changes to the computer? This seems odd and if true a bit of a scandal to me....anyway they talked me through lots of options and in the end suggested I re-install the operating system. Which I have. So I now have a totally clean laptop, having reinstalled Windows and the drivers.......and guess what - still got the same problem!
This may help some techies out there - means nothing to me.....One of the things the Dell support guy was confused by was that he kept taking me to iconfig, and checking the IPV4 and IPV6 addresses these start with 169. The Dell chap kept saying this isn't a valid address?
Anymore ideas anyone - before I have to pay to take it to a PC repair centre of some kind....
Thanks
