Please include your PC model details in your next reply.
If the issue is not with hardware physical connections, then it could be with drivers or audio companion software like Realtek HD audio of your PC. Please update those either from your PC manufacturer support site or from Start>settings>windows update>advanced>optional updates> install any optional updates available there.

Diagnostics say speaker unplugged. External speakers are plugged in and green light is on. Speaker symbol on bottom of screen has x on it. HP envy teo2 0187c DT PC. External speakers are from 2016.

Please go to device manager right clicking on start, there look for intel smart sound technology or intel SST devices. Right click on them then uninstall. Restart the laptop now and it should work. If the issue is still there, uninstall all audio drivers there and restart PC. Age of the speakers are not of concern.
