No Audio devices are installed

The speaker at the bottom right corner is marked with red 'x', on hoover its showing message 'No audio output device are installed'. I tried with the trouble shooter it didn't work.I also checked from control panel, following are the screen captures for that.

Hello!

When did this issue start?

Can you post a screenshot of your device manager?

We need to make sure that the device drivers for the sound is installed. Otherwise, you should install it. It should install automatically by Windows, but if not, you may refer to the manufacturer's website to get the latest drivers.

If there is a driver installed for the sound, uninstall it, and then restart the computer. See if Windows will install it.

I have the exact same problem. Windows 10 with a Bose Companion 5  speaker system, which has performed fine for three years on this machine, with Win 7 and now Win 10.

No software or hardware has changed. Worked yesterday, does not work today.

The audio service refuses to start. The "troubleshooter" does nothing (as usual) and the "Sound" section of Device manager insists no audio devices are installed, which is nonsense. Last restore point is 4 days ago, and failed to install when I tried.

ps- Tried uninstalling the device and  scanning for hardware changes. Nothing.

Uninstalled and reinstalled driver. No change.

What is the make and model of your computer? Did you try downloading the audio drivers from the manufacturer's website?

HP9090.

The drivers are reported as fully up-to-date by Windows.

They worked just fine on Monday.

I have not changed anything.

Device manager shows the device (Bose Companion 5) as working properly.

Everything is just dandy, according to the OS.

The only small problem is that it doesn't play anything- and the  red "x" appears in the icon tray.

Oh- and I have now tried six restore points, back into January. Not one works.

(I'm replying on a different computer Zach, in case that makes any difference).

Thanks for your reply. I am sending some screen capture of device
manager. Hope it will help you to understand the issue. In Sound Vedio
and Game Controller I can see only one entry(Capture.PNG), If I select
the option Show Hidden Devices from view section its showing some more
options(Capture2.PNG) including  Intel(R) Display Audio. Capture1 is
properties for Realtek High Definition Audio. Capture3.PNG and
Capture4.PNG are Events for Realtek Audio. Capture6,PNG is scan result
of driver easy software.

To both-

I just swapped the Bose system to another PC, where it works fine, so not a hardware issue.

The event list in my Sound etc controller is very like Saibal's Capture 2 , apart from times and  being a Bose driver, not Realtek.

-also- in the Services listing, Audiosrv reads "Failed to read description. Error code 2."

Startup is set to automatic. I have tried variations on stopping and starting, with no effect.

I just checked the services list on the Win 10 machine that has working sound.

There is no service named "Audiosrv" on it, only  "Windows Audio".

As both machines were upped to Win 10 about the same time, I don't understand why the services would differ...

... It gets odder. On the problem PC, there exists no Audiosrv.dll, though there is an AudiosrvPolicymanager.dll

Looks like I found it.

Saibal- This seems to have fixed the problem for me.

Run as admin SFC /scannow

If the Audiosrv.dll file has been corrupted, this should replace it with a new copy.

nb It's possible this is the result of a malware attack, but that's another story.

Have you been using that 3rd party driver updater to update your computer's drivers? If yes, I recommend not to. Try to have it uninstalled, then uninstall the two "Realtek High Definition Audio", restart your computer and then let Windows install it.

Also, try to follow what worked for Soapy Sam :)

Right-click Windows logo, select Command Prompt (Admin), type SFC /scannow
