No audio after using remote desktop

Audio has disappeared after using remote destop.

Problem description:

  • I have connected a host (Win7) to a client (Win7) and listened to audio on the client. Workes like a wonder.
  • Disconnect from the client
  • Start the host to play music
  • No sound at all, not even system sounds
  • All drivers seem to be correct
  • All audio meters are moving indicating there should be sound

Have tried to roll back the system without any luck.

What can be the problem?

Answer

Hi Kalager,

Sometimes a simple restart helps in this scenario. Have you done that?

Also, reading your post it seems the sound is still redirected to your client computer.

Please configure the option to play the sound on the host computer by following the steps below.
Let us know the result.

1. Click on ‘Start’ and type ‘remote desktop connections’ and Enter.
2. In the ‘remote desktop connections’ click on ‘Options’ and select ‘Local Resource’ tab.
3. Click on ‘Settings’ under Remote audio.
4. Select ‘Play on this computer’.
5. Click ‘OK’.

That should do the trick.

Also check if your device is set as default.
1. Go to Start > Control panel>Sound
2. Under Playback, select your speaker. Ensure that it is set as Default.
3. If not set it as default device by clicking on “Set Default”.
