New photo editing software

I was just forced to get the new Microsoft photo editing software. It suddenly appeared replacing my current Microsoft photo editing program. No notice, no option not to take it, just "boom", here it is on your pc, deal with it.

Here's the problem. Unlike the old software the new software does not have any way to SHARPEN the chosen image! I NEED to sharpen every image I shoot. It's critical! As a photographic artist now, with this new updated photo editing software, I can't sharpen an image. That makes the updated program 100% WORTHLESS TO ME! I can't use it at all.

Yes, the new Windows photo editor has contrast and exposure but no Sharpness. Sharpness is absolutely critical to my art.

Maybe someday Microsoft can actually have focus groups, or testing, using non technical users and listening to their feedback BEFORE they roll out programs that don't work the way we want them to work???

Agree completely. Any experienced photographer or artist who regularly engages in image development would never have suggested that the sharpening adjustment (called 'Clarity' in the previous version) was unnecessary or should be eliminated. One cannot avoid speculating that no serious attempt was made to solicit feedback from knowledgeable, experienced users. While there have been some nice features added in this latest update, I'll still have to abandon the Windows app if a sharpening adjustment is not added back. It's just too important.

I agree: the sharpness, spot fix and red eye removal features are essential. How to we convince MS ro bring them back?

Yep, it looks like they are now using web tech to edit photos. Have you logged Feedback in the Hub?

Zac Bowden on Twitter: "Microsoft recently updated the Photos app editor mode with a new UI (based on web tech :/) and it REMOVED the spot fix tool, the only goddamn feature I actually used. WHY MICROSOFT?? https://t.co/GlJKwcXuL0" / Twitter

How do you know that they didn't do that?

Maybe they did all those things, and you disagree with the focus groups' conclusions?

In any case, aside from "because it's included in Windows" why do you feel like you have to use Windows apps for anything? I hardly use any Windows apps. Most of the time I use third-party apps. Windows is, first and foremost, an operating system. Everything else is a free add-in that you can choose or lose as you like.

The sharpen tool in paint.net (which is free) works well for me. Try it, and you'll forget all about that Windows app ... what's its name?

I have indeed posted in the Feedback Hub, and suggest we all should. Maybe, just maybe, they'll actually listen.

I also have to agree. Rather then adding on to what they have or improving the included editing options they instead decide to remove them. Totally dumb move.

I used it on most every image I edited.. What choices do we have now to find a software that can do these things?

The app is garbage now. Almost no functionality. No way to sharpen, no spot fix, no red eye reduction. It is pretty much useless as a quick tool to adjust photos. Microsoft has been gradually dumbing down the photos app for years and it is now essentially useless.
