Need Windows 10 setting to adjust touchpad sensitivity

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my ASUS laptop touchpad's sensitivity is so great as to make it impractical to use.  However, I can not find a setting to lower it sensitivity level.

FYI, just while typing this I somehow changed a single webpage view to a high contrast theme with my palm or thumb.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome and thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. We appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

Please be informed us if you have updated the touch pad driver after upgrading to Windows 10.

As this issue might be due to un-updated touchpad drivers, I suggest you to update the touch pad driver and check.

Steps:

  1. Type Device Manager in the Search box from the desktop.
  2. Select Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right click on the driver and select Update Driver Software.
  4. Restart the laptop and check with the sensitivity.

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of this issue, we will be happy to help you.

Having the same problem. Tried it, still didn't work. Really starting to regret updating my Windows 7.

Thanks, but a swing and a miss.

Following the driver update, I reduced sensitivity to the lowest possible level and turned off a number of motions I never use (e.g., palm swipes, etc.), but somehow still manage to open, close, minimize, and/or maximize unintended links, active windows, and/or pages (simple editing of this reply was a really struggle).

Can't really determine the mechanics of what I am doing that result in all these inadvertent actions.  Also, I find that use of the arrow keys are the only way to get to some link targets.

The driver update definitely gave me more control options, but did not solve enough of my touchpad issues since upgrading to Windows 10 to eliminate my frustrations with simple navigation  Despite the many issues I had with Windows 8.1, navigating with my laptop's touchpad was not one of them.

Method 1: Hardware and Sound troubleshooter.

  1. Press Windows Key + X key, Click on Control Panel.

  2. Type troubleshooting in the search bar, click on troubleshooting.

  3. Click on Hardware and Sound, click on Hardware and Devices.

  4. Follow the steps from the wizard to run the troubleshooter.

Hope it helps. Do let us know if your issue is resolved. For any further query, feel free to contact us.

Thank you.

I have done what was suggested in a few places for my ASUS laptop.  I have not found where I can get Windows 10 to stop interpreting 1 click as 2 or keep the mouse from jumping off the scroll bar every time I click.  Very frustrating!

You say:

Steps:

  1. Type Device Manager in the Search box from the desktop.
  2. Select Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right click on the driver and select Update Driver Software.
  4. Restart the laptop and check with the sensitivity.

BUT, "update driver" choice is greyed  out  - cannot select that.

This didn't help. We simply need an OPTION to adjust sensitivity, the mouse is tooooo heavy and I can't get the pointer to land on anything that I need to click, it takes literally 10 tries of sitting there messing with it to click. Tell me how that's productive in the year 2016?? I need to be able to click and go, click and go.

PLEASE TELL MICROSOFT (SINCE YOU WORK WITH THEM) TO ADJUST THIS AND INCORPORATE IT.

THANKS. :)

I've done all this with no resolution.

Drivers are updated.

My laptop is practically useless.  I'm deleting email just by clicking on it.  Whole passages of text will suddenly become highlighted, and then erase, when I click a key.

Either give us something to fix this or let us go back to Window 8.

It's enough to drive someone to use a Mac.

First of all I am not a Microsoft employee. How I ended up in this thread is beyond me as I had different issues with Windows 10    But can address similar issues that I have personally had with my touchpad after upgrading to Windows 10.  I have a Dell laptop and the touchpad was so sensitive after upgrading to Windows 10 that while trying to navigate around the screen I was opening items that I did not want to open and experienced similar problems that you had with emails.  If you are using a Dell laptop, you can eliminate some of these issues by clicking on the up arrow in the tray in the bottom right side of the screen.  It will show hidden icons. One of those is the Dell Touchpad.  Double click on it and it will open a screen to adjust the touch pad sensitivity. You can turn off the" tap to click sensitivity" of the touchpad"  That worked for me and if you have a Dell it very well could work for you.
