my windows media player wont play .MKV files. How can i get it to support this file type

I am using windows 7
Answer
Answer
You need to install the appropriate codec to play the Matroska (.MKV) file. This codec is not provided with Windows Media Player by default, hence why it won't play it. As a starting point, look here for further info on MKV codec. Hope this helps.
