my W10 takes ages to search with no result. Indexing and Range searching not helpful.

Hello, I tried to find all my 'JPG files from the 18th of October to now and get nowhere.
I read about indexing...So many options, i'm lost. I remember doing so when a popup told me it would help but now can't see it.
I also read that W10 had a calendar for range that let you put specific date but no more now - Now only Day, month this year last year....
This is actually not correct. With many trials and error I found that selecting 'Mofied' and (for me) picking last year did put something in the search field, then clicking on it popped up a calendar.... It took me some more effort to see how to input the start and end of that search range. I ended up getting the solution which was to drag the cursor across the calendar to get it.
I would add that you have to be quick to do any of it! 1) from the icon calendar to pick your selection you have to be very quick as they disappear so quickly. 2) with highlighting the range, it also needs a little of skill as the range goes pass quickly.
Now, It took me a little while to write all this. But my aboved mentioned range is still searching with no result yet. This does not seem right since my parameters do not seem so large.
Perhaps someone has some idea regarding what is not kosher.

PS: Here I'm asked about product which W10 is the answer for me. Then 'Topic' which should be "Search" But this is not listed so I put performance.
Perhaps it would be more used full to have another listing like "Other" for one to put what they think their topic may be.

Hi Michel, This is Ramesh.

In the date picker flyout, click on a date. Then press Shift and select the end date. This creates the date range. Doing so might be easier than highlighting the range using the mouse pointer.

If no results appear for the selected date range, try other search parameters (e.g., "Today", "This week", "This year", etc.) to determine if the search index is faulty.

If no results appear for any search query, we must rebuild the index via Indexing Options in the Control Panel.

Thank you Ramesh for your quick reply.

In my search, the range was ok. But before, I had my previous search text. So it came as No results for it. I had also "*jpeg" and forgot the dot before the J.
I can also see that there is a msg regarding the indexing; it is complete and stating 30 000 files have been indexed, but no date for it...

Oh , I just done another search fixing these mistakes and now I can see .jpg file after only, a short time!

So it must have been my falty syntax that prevented it to work.

And in my result, it seems that all the file I renamed have a four corner frame on them? And I can also see the originals before renaming. I have never notice this before.

Regards MM

Hi Michel,

Thanks for the update. Glad you figured that out.

Regarding the file icons, please share a screenshot of what you're seeing. And I wonder if you changed the extension or only the file name. If you're able to open the file(s) by double-clicking the file, then the associations are fine.
