Hello,

Update the sound driver in your computer. Go to Device Manager. Right Click on the Sound Driver and update it. If it won't fix the problem, then uninstall it from the device manager and restart the computer. Windows will generate the driver.

After fixing this problem, I suggest that you install RadarSync into your computer. It's a software which will automate the updating process of all the drivers in your computer. It would surely save you a lot of time and no headache at all.

I hope this helps!

I am having a similar problem. My computer  updated automatically at today 3:50pm. The volume was working earlier in the day. Then the speaker icon in the bottom corner became "X" out.

Interestingly if I plug a second audio device directly into motherboard audio jack it works until i run a program. When I ran a steam program the audio cuts out. I try a different game using a different service and same problem. When I exit the game now the audio is no longer sounding when i click the volume tab on the bar.

I tried all the steps above to no avail. except step 2 of method 2  as  I can't contact a manufacturer as it is custom built.

Have tried all of the above but with zero success.

To me this isn't a driver issue as I have never had an audio problem with any previous versions of Windows until version 10 was installed.  Even the install had serious issues that stopped the install that was supposedly due to driver issues.  Why should a driver ever stop a boot process during an upgrade install?

There are oddities constantly occurring with Win 10 such as screens being disabled when typing so the typing is put on pause just like the audio issue.  Then it comes back for no reason.  Some times the Internet radio station is changed from play mode to pause mode but if I listen to the same station on my Android tablet this never occurs.  Sometimes I have to disable the audio card then enable it again and this fixes the problem.  Other times I have to disable the audio card, enable the speakers on my display, disable these speakers, then enable the audio card again and it works.  Sorry but this isn't an audio card issue but something in Windows that is causing the disabling of both my screen as well as the audio card.  Again, drivers were NEVER an issue in previous versions of Windows.  This is a Windows problem and could be easily traced if MS really looked into this but for whatever reason they don't want to do anything about it???

Like others I have not been able to get this issue resolved.

Toshiba Satellite L750D-1CY laptop, AMD sound driver.

As I watch live streaming of sport, every few minutes the sound will completely fail. If I put the laptop into 'sleep' and then power it back up, the sound returns. Hardware and driver wise, there doesn't look to be any issue, and all is quiet in Event Viewer.

It is since the December 2017 'Creators Update' for Windows 10 that this has happened. Clearly this update has audio issues - ones which Microsoft DO NOT KNOW how to fix.
