My PC keeps creating these DMP files every single second in my temp folder.

I don't know what's causing it, or when it started, but my entire temp folder is full of these, "PRODUCT_NAME_UNKNOWN_CrashDumpPRODUCT_VERSION_MAJOR_UNKNOWN-PRODUCT_VERSION_MINOR_UNKNOWN-2018-11-09--14-16-23_.dmp". No matter how many I delete, they literally just keep respawning over and over, every single second a new one is created. Can someone please help me with ASAP? I did install this stupid windows store app called WinDbg preview or something like that, for being able to read DMP files, but I just uninstalled it, and now I noticed whenever I try to paste anything, it keeps pasting this, "C:\Users\randy\AppData\Local\Temp\PRODUCT_NAME_UNKNOWN_CrashDumpPRODUCT_VERSION_MAJOR_UNKNOWN-PRODUCT_VERSION_MINOR_UNKNOWN-2018-11-09--14-17-58_.dmp". This never used to happen until recently. My Forza horizon 4 game keeps crashing on startup if I don't put it into full screen as fast as I can. It freezes on the intro splash screen. But now this Temp folder is creating a new DMP file literally every single second. What is this trying to tell me? Why is it happening? And HOW do I make it stop? I don't know what else to do right now. I've never had this happen to me before. It all started when this NahimicService.exe showed up on my PC, and I assumed it was from the WinDbg preview app I installed for reading the DMP files. But even after uninstalling that app, they're still here. Then when I try to delete the files, it mentions something about it can't delete because this audiodg.exe is in use. Then when I google this, it comes up that it has to do with my realtek driver, which I have an ASUS maximus X Code motherboard and it came with a realtek audio driver and sonic studio, but ever since they made sonic studio a UWP app from the windows store, I've been having terrible problems with my audio. So I installed the old version before the latest update they had, and the problems went away, but now I have these DMP files filling up my temp folder like crazy. How can I solve this?

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Did you make any changes on the computer prior to this issue?

It seems that the dumps are created by Nahimac.exe.
The Nahimic service is part of Sonic Studio which is installed along with Realtek audio driver on Asus and MSI motherboards. Try to update the Realtek audio driver.

Update drivers in Windows 10.

If updating the audio driver doesn’t help, try stopping the Nahimic service.

  1. Press Windows+R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type Services.msc and hit the Enter key.

  3. Look for Nahimic service.

  4. Right click and Stop.

  5. Change startup type from Automatic to disabled

If stopping the service does not fix the issue, uninstall the Sonic Studio application in Apps and features panel.

Go to Settings->Apps.

Select the application, click on Advanced options and then Uninstall button.

If the issue persists after following the methods given above, try with disabling fast start up.

  1. Press Windows+R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type Control and press the Enter key to open control panel.

  3. Go to power options->Choose what the power buttons do->Change settings that are currently available.

  4. Under Shutdown settings, uncheck the checkbox for Turn on fast startup and click Save changes.

  5. Reboot the computer and see if the issue is fixed.

Hope it helps.

If I do that, then Sonic Studio can longer open. And I need it for my EQ settings. So disabling the service is hardly a fix for it. The only thing so far I've found to help is by uninstalling it, and reinstalling the original software before it became a windows UWP app. So apparently, the problem is with you guys. The software was fine, then you took it over and now it's causing everyone problems. Typical. But this is starting to bug me because it constantly updates itself. And I'm not going to disable my updates to prevent one app from trying to update. This seems to be an issue that's been happening since MS took over the app. Yet, still no fix. As for the "disable fast boot" that doesn't help, either. So you guys should try to fix the initial issue, not just band-aid it by disabling things. Or just give the software coding back to Asus, cause it was fine when they had control over it. And I don't mean to sound rude, but it seems like everything that Microsoft gets their hands on, gets completely ruined. I don't know why they would even give MS the control over the app. To what, make it more convenient to download? I'd rather have quality over convenience. It's not hard to go to ASUS's product driver page and install the latest drivers. Even though, tbh they have been slacking on the Z370 ever since the Z390 came out. We haven't even had any utility updates for our boards but they made new ones for the z390. It's like they make new products and just give up trying to update and keep the older ones stable. Like they're forcing our hand to upgrade platforms, when I just spent over 5 grand upgrading from a 4th gen Haswell system to the z390/8700K not even 6 months ago. So, there shouldn't be a reason why we're stuck in these situations. It's like we're all chopped liver and they expect us all to keep upgrading for no reason. Especially, when the newer systems aren't even THAT much better, at all, compared to what I have. It's nothing more than a refresh of the 8th gen line up just to milk more money from their consumers. They just slap on a new name and change nothing, and expect everyone to pay 1000s of more dollars for something we already have with absolutely no benefit but for cores that are virtually useless for what most of us are using the PCs for. It just makes no sense. Now to top it off, ASUS is giving away their software to a company that's always breaking everything. That doesn't seem like a smart thing to do. But I guess to each their own. I suppose, that we're all stuck trying to fix this ourselves, or go disabling our updates that we probably need just to be able to run an older version of this program that's causing the issue or to disable fast boot. And I already have a terribly slow bootup time because the brand new copy of windows 10 pro that I just wasted $230 on a few months ago, keeps getting corrupted for some unknown reason that again, MS can't seem to figure out. I can't even run a "startup repair" or anything without it failing. Other than being told to "reinstall the OS". Which makes absolutely no difference because it still ends up messed up again. So, now I can see why people refuse to pay for a software that you could easily pirate for free online that has absolutely no difference in quality. Half the time the cracked versions of software are better than the actual products from the designers. Tell me how that works!? So, I'm not going to reinstall my version of windows again, for the 5th time in the last few months, because you guys keep breaking things, and releasing a bunch of updates that do more damage. It's always quantity over quality these days. I just was offered to update to the latest October update of windows, so hopefully, that'll fix some things. Most likely, it'll just end up doing more damage though, to things that aren't even broken right now. That much I can put money on. As usual, we get stuck with a broken product that no one wants to fix. Wasting 100s of dollars for nothing. For "peace of mind" that we're getting a "stable" product, yet it never is. Same with games, software, and most of all... Operating systems. Then developers wonder why pirating is so rampant. Maybe, if they learned to fix their own stuff before trying to get a quick cash grab, they wouldn't have as much of a problem. I'm just really fed up with this. It's always one thing after another and the answer is always, something so irrelevant. "Reinstall", "disable", a bunch of quick band-aids that never actually fix the underlining problems. And I refuse to reinstall my OS again when it never solves the issue. Just wastes a bunch of time having to reinstall all my software, games, and everything else. I have my own home studio that uses countless recording software & plugins, that take forever to install. As well as countless games that take even longer. All for the SAME problems to happen again and again with no one doing anything at all about it. I knew even making this post would be a waste of time, but I figured I'd give the benefit of the doubt. Clearly, I was right and this was to be expected.

I think they fixed the issue with the latest update for the sonic studio app. The only fix I found up until now, was to restart my PC after my initial boot up. Like if I just turned on my PC for the first time in the day, I would have to instantly restart it, or it would start creating these DMP files. But once I would restart my PC they would go away. But doing that for the last month straight or so was getting to be really annoying, and as usual, the only response you get from Microsoft is to either do a useless "clean installation" or disable a bunch of stuff. Hardly a fix. Clearly, the MS team hasn't said anything after my last rant. So, as usual, they were virtually useless. I'm just not even going to bother asking them for help anymore. I'm just sick to my stomach that I wasted 230$ on windows 10 pro at best buy, when I could've and should've just pirated it for free. I would've had the same problems and bugs that I have with the legit copy. I'll never waste another dollar on another microsoft product ever again in my entire life. I'm so sick of constantly having to reinstall windows due to endless corruptions in the registry, and updates, and having to constantly reinstall countless terabytes worth of software and games because they can never fix their own useless OS. They were so quick to push it out onto everyone for "free". Then stop selling older versions of windows, so if you build a new PC, you're essentially forced to buy windows 10. And best buy was completely sold out of windows 10 home, so I had no choice but to get pro, so I wasted 230$ on a features that I'll never even use. For something I could've easily torrented for free. My fear was having an unstable OS. But clearly, it doesn't matter because I was having issues with the brand new OS from the start even with the version on the USB drive that comes with windows 10 pro. Then, in a matter of months something always ends up getting corrupted somehow. I can never properly update my PC to the latest builds without having to disable windows media player(for god knows why that has any connection to anything) and then having to deny searching for any updates before having to install the new update, or else the update will fail halfway through and just revert any changes made. My "startup repair" hasn't worked, ever. Even on my old HP pavilion, for whatever reason the windows recovery paritions are always corrupt. And this is on a brand new system that's all current gen hardware. All 8th gen Intel CPU/motherboard, etc. So there's no excuse. And then when I finally did get the latest 1809 build to successfully install, it just kept causing Forza Horizon 4 to keep crashing every 5 minutes or less. So I had to roll back to 1803 just to be able to play the game. And until they fix those issues, god only knows when I'll be able to update to the latest build without having more and more problems. I'm just so sick of MS always having SOMETHING go terribly wrong. And the support is just awful. The only answer we ever get is to just do a clean install of windows as if that ever solves anything. Sure, as I've said, it may help for a little while, but it ALWAYS comes back in a few months. I've read countless reasons, from C-Cleaner jacking up your registry paths and it being the reason that updates fail to work properly. Downloading and installing them into the wrong locations. My steam games are always stuck at 0MB/ps download speeds. Yet, everything else works fine. So when I get stuck having to download all my games and install all my software, music apps, and music VST plugins, it takes SO much time. I doubt they even understand when they tell us "just reinstall windows". It takes so much time to get back to where we were, only to eventually have the same issues come back again! Like what's the point? Microsoft needs to stop being so money hungry and actually take their time releasing a proper OS. Either that, or make it an open source operating system and let people who actually know what they're doing fix it. Charging for a broken OS is far from fair. And there's people who depend on this platform for many reasons, people have jobs they have to do, and then when the system is always failing, the only "fix" we're told is by starting fresh, and having to completely reinstall all of our software & games, again. Like that eats up so much internet bandwidth I'm suprised my ISP isn't throttling my connection. Downloading games that are 100+GBs in size over and over again just because microsoft can't hash out these dang bugs and problems. Like don't charge us a premium price for a broken product. Idk how there aren't lawsuits againt microsoft for this. As much as I hate apple/mac, at least their OS works with minimal issues. Windows on the otherhand... breaks everytime they release an update. I suppose it's pointless even typing all of this. Just wasting my own time.

Thanks for the info. I'll try the new version soon. After I found out what caused the creation of the dump files and the copy-paste error I reverted back to a previous audio driver.

I agree it's absolutely ridiculous but the support person gave the right steps at least. Honestly it needs to just be disabled and left that way, it'll be years if ever that this service is fixed.

It's not only making dumps, but crashing a few games at launch and not a lot of devs not are aware that 'this' service is the cause for the crashes so most just give up on playing that game in particular. It's better to just leave it off and find a different EQ for your card. It's seriously not worth it having this thing run.

I disabled it, disabled the realtek bs on the Motherboard bios, in device manager, and started using a seperate sound blaster card, never looked back.
