My network adapter configuration resets randomly...

MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E MT7922 160MHz Wireless LAN Card

My network adapter configuration keeps resetting every time my PC reboots. It occasionally does so even when I haven't restarted by PC (perhaps when it goes to sleep). It literally just does whatever it wants. I've set the band to be only 2.4GHz/5GHz, and it just chooses whichever it wants to.

I want to set it up to be 2.4GHz/802.11n/20MHz just for a stable connection. Currently it is on 5MHz 802.11n even though Preffered Band is set to 2.4GHz, and so is Band Selection.

I said it happens when the PC restarts and it does, but it also does this at complete random. I've even set the Roaming Aggressiveness to 'Disabled', and it is still occurring.

All drivers are up to date.

Is there a way to make a batch file to set these settings, and maybe just have it on Desktop to click when I need to, or is there a more permanent solution?

Hi Brandon. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

The permanent solution is for the Wifi card to work correctly, or else replace it. I'll give you the fixes for known issue of Wifi changing bands, and other fixes that work most for Wifi and steps to go over the settings most thoroughly.

1) First try these fixes for Windows 11 Wifi changing bands:

2) Update your Wifi drivers from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

If you have the latest network driver then try on it's Driver tab also to Roll Back, or Uninstall and then restart PC to reinstall the driver. Try also all older drivers from Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick list working backwards.

Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters, select Wifi adapter, then Power Management tab, clear the check box to "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save energy." Then on the Advanced tab disable any energy-saving options.

3) Enable IPv6 here: How to Disable/Enable IPv6 in Windows 11 or 10

4) Reset the network settings in Windows 11:
https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/how_to_...

5) Fix network connection issues in Windows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix...

6) Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WIfi > Manage Known Networks, highlight and remove the network having problems, restart PC to see if it shows up again.

7) Try plugging in by ethernet cable to the router to compare, then plug the ethernet cable into the modem (if separate) to see if this might be an issue with the router.

8) Try powering off modem, router and PC and then restarting in that order with 1 minute in between each. You may need to reset your router or even optimize it following these steps:

https://www.lifewire.com/resetting-a-home-netwo...

https://www.pcmag.com/article/258865/how-to-set...

Your router manual is always available from the manufacturer's website for your exact model.

9) You also are entitled to Support from your internet provider to get online on all devices. This is always included in the monthly bill. If your router is less than a year old they will also Support getting it connected and optimized.

10) Another option is you could replace the wireless adapter with an inexpensive USB nano adapter like one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P5PRK7J

11) Run System File Checker/DISM in WIndows 11:
https://www.elevenforum.com/t/use-system-file-c...

12) If that doesn't fix it then you can do a Windows 11 Repair Upgrade which reinstalls Windows while saving your files and apps in place, brings it up to the latest version by the most stable method, takes about an hour and resolves most problems: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
