My laptop randomly restarts and logs critical Kernel-Power

Hi

My laptop randomly restarts. Sometimes it gives me blue screen of death with no bootable device found and sometimes it is something else.

I tried every test from the F2 menu with a positive result. The laptop was in repair (not Microsoft) with no result and the SSD was scanned with no errors. The system sometimes fails with initialization of a crash dump.

I checked C:/WINDOWS/System32/LogFiles/Srt and found a log file with an error about a binary file for boostart has been updated or is broken. The system tried to remove the latest LCU with an error 0x905 as result. I did run the sfc /scannow command with no issues.

I will include the latest a dmp file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14MvHRQlkAvS2opjGuGrJtDlJeX2YxKlv/view?usp=drive_link

Thanks for help.

Hello, and thanks for reaching out! I'm Nals, and I'll be happy to assist you today.

Based on the minidump files you provided, it appears that there is memory (RAM) corruption, but no specific driver is listed as the cause of the issue. Is this an ongoing crash? Do you have any other minidump files for analysis?

Best regards,
Nals

Hey Nals

Thank you for your answer to my problem. The crashes are an ongoing problem, but like said before it is random. Unfortunately I reinstalled windows on the laptop with the "reset this pc" function, but I will try to search for more minidump files with disk drill.

I found a dmp file that was created 2 hours before the one I send before, but it may be the same one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1age6ofEsldrGeAakV-dUNGoNz_7qh7R5/view?usp=sharing

If something else is needed, I will provide it. But if a repair doesn't gives meaning, then it is what it is.

Thank you again for helping me😊

Based on the minidump files you provided, it appears that there is memory (RAM) corruption, but no specific driver is listed as the cause of the issue.

To diagnose further, we can use Driver Verifier:

Enabling Driver Verifier can help identify problematic drivers. Before you proceed, it's important to create a new System Restore Point as a precautionary measure: https://support.microsoft.com/windows/create-a-...

You can follow the instructions in the below link to start Driver verifier
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Run Driver Verifier and allow your PC to crash three times. This will help to identify any problematic driver and finally, upload any newly created minidump files

If you encounter difficulty booting into Windows with Driver Verifier enabled:

Start your PC, and as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold the Power Button for 5-10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down.
Repeat this twice.
On the third start, Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment. From there, you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt, etc.

Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings and click Restart.
Upon restart, press 4 to enter Safe Mode.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run these two commands, then restart your PC:

verifier /reset
verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

After disabling Driver Verifier, upload any newly created minidump files for further analysis. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Okay....

So I did it all step by step, but I couldn't make the laptop crash. So I restored the system point and tried the driver verifier with all drivers selected (windows drivers selected too).

It gave me this dmp file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xgQJTFG2_EUDhrrTVfdiBiw4mP0pN-cp/view?usp=sharing

Do you know if this is a hardware or software issue which can be fixed with reinstalling windows from usb flash drive?

I’ve analyzed the latest minidump file you shared, and it indicates the crash is caused by filecrypt.sys, a core Windows system file responsible for encryption and file system operations. This issue seems to be software-related and can likely be resolved by performing a clean installation of Windows. You can follow the steps here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Hello again, I am starting to feel like a your friend.

I did the clean installation of windows and it fixed somethings. I did the verifier process again and got a file + DumpStack, because I got the blue screen of death randomly:

I check the event log and here is the XML of the critical kerner-power:

Sorry for the amount of work my laptop gives you

Thank you for the update!

The minidump analysis indicates that the process ntkrnlmp.exe is causing problems, specifically linked to the windows kernel. This suggests that there may be an issue with the kernel or a related driver, potentially due to corrupted files or incorrect symbols being loaded.

I would recommend you try the following steps and see if that helps

1. Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

https://support.microsoft.com/topic/use-the-sys...

2. Perform the clean boot option

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
Type "msconfig" and press Enter.
In the System Configuration window, go to the "Services" tab.
Check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft services."
Click on "Disable all" to disable all non-Microsoft services.
Go to the "Startup" tab and click "Open Task Manager."
In the Task Manager, disable all startup programs.
Close the Task Manager and click "OK" in the System Configuration window.

Source: https://support.microsoft.com/topic/how-to-perf...

Restart your computer and see if the error persists.

3. Run Windows Memory Diagnostic

Press Windows + R, type mdsched.exe, and press Enter.
Choose to restart and check for problems.
Let the tool run and check for any memory issues.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to let me know. I'm here to help!

Nals
