My internet connection is acting up

I'm using Windows 7, my computer's 2 y/o. I will turn on my computer and use the internet just fine until I go to do something else, I'll turn off my monitor and after 10 minutes my computer will go into standby, when I come back, I hit enter, log back onto my desk top and usually the internet works just fine, except the last few days, when I come back on after standby the computer is telling me I have no internet connection, when I go to reconnect it tells me connection not found. When this happens I look at the modem which is working just fine and the Playstation I have hooked up running netflix just fine so I figure a quick restart of my computer might fix the issue, so when I go to restart, my computer freezes during the shut down process.

This is clearly a Microsoft issue seeing how it has only started happening since my last Microsoft update. I don't know how Microsoft changed my settings but I'm becoming increasingly frustrated. Any help is appreciated.

Not sure what the answer is (short of jumping the Microsoft ship in favor of Apple) but I have had issues lately similar to what I was getting when they were trying to force Windows 10 onto my laptop.  When Microsoft stopped trying to force the "free" Windows 10 download into my computer the issues went away.  Makes me wonder if they are trying to sneak something else in.

When using a program that can toggle from full screen to shrunk, it will randomly toggle back and forth.  My flash player has conniption fits and crashes often.  This doesn't happen when Microsoft isn't trying to put something on the laptop, so I've changed my update parameters so that it doesn't auto load, but lets me decide what and when I download/install.

To clarify, I'm asking for help how to fix the issue, not get ads from the Apple Corporation to spend $2,000 on a Macintosh. I'm old enough to remember when the internet originally came out and even the days before on the original Apple and Commodore, navigating computers before their was such a thing as an Operating System and the only games available to play were Oregon Trail, Joust and Wheel of Fortune, back when the only way to navigate was through Dos. I choose to use Windows over Macintosh not only for it's affordability but because I feel it is more user friendly, since I am not the only person using it. If I was the only user, I would probably still have Windows but always start up the computer in and navigate it using Dos, never allowing for an issue like this to arise. Unfortunately I am not a computer programmer and don't have the understanding to how programs are built or how they function, only how to execute functions and navigate. So again, any help is appreciated as long as it's help to fix the issue at hand. Thank you

How are you connected? IE wifi or ethernet cable.

If wifi, open command prompt and type:

ipconfig /renew

Did it reconnect?

Ethernet, comcast 25mbps, modem/router (rented from comcast), 1 computer hp tower and 1 playstation, speed test always shows 25+mbps. I know it's not on the modem's end, I've already troubleshooted it and it's not the problem. Like I said the issue started after the last Microsoft update.
