Hi theAshwinikr.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

You mentioned what the tech support you contacted earlier did and then your Fn key failed. Unfortunately, I can't find out what that tech support suggested for you, and it would be helpful if you put his suggestions and what you did in your reply.

There are some basic options you can try before learning more. Firstly, there are currently two ways of triggering the Fn shortcut on laptops. One is Fn + FX for control functions (on/off, volume) and FX for its own functions (F1, F2). The other is the exact opposite, where FX alone performs the control functions, while Fn + FX performs the functions of FX itself. Therefore, you can try to see if pressing FX alone allows you to adjust the volume for screenshots, etc.

These two triggers are interchangeable and can be changed by doing the following:

1. Reboot your computer and quickly tap the BIOS key after the boot button is pressed (this is usually the F2, F12, Delete or Esc key, depending on the motherboard manufacturer).

(Disclaimer: If you are going to modify BIOS Settings, please back up all your personal files first to ensure you do not lose data.)

2. Go to the Advanced tab, find the Device configuration option and enter it.

3. Find the option like FN Key switch, hotkey mode and toggle it to enable/disable.

Now your Fn should be back to its original state. Of course, some devices use the software pre-installed by the computer manufacturer to switch these options, and may not need to enter the BIOS, these depend on your computer manufacturer.
