Hi Zack,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft community forums.

From the description, I understand that you are getting an Error “Something went wrong when taking this picture” while taking picture on your Windows 8 computer.

1.  What is the make and model of the computer?

2.  Are you using an inbuilt webcam or an external one?

3.  If you are using an external webcam, what is the make and model number of it?

4.  Are you getting this Error on the camera App?

5.  Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

The issue could be with the camera or the camera app.

When you start the Camera app, the camera app will display the text “Connect to camera”. Plug the camera into the USB port, if the camera does not connect, unplug and then reconnect the camera.

I would recommend you to follow the below given methods and check if it fixes the issue.

If the Error is occurring while using App, I would suggest you to run the App Troubleshooter.

Method1: Run the App troubleshooter

Refer: What to do if you have problems with an app
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/what-troubleshoot-problems-app

Note: Run the troubleshooter that is mentioned at the end.

Method 2: Run the Hardware Troubleshooter and check the Windows Update for any latest driver updates.

The Hardware Troubleshooter is an automated tool which will check the hardware connected to the computer for any known issues with it and provides the details and on how to fix them. Follow these steps and run the troubleshooter.

a) Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

b) Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”.

c) In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.

d) Click on “Hardware and Devices”.

e) Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.

f) Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Method 3: Try updating the webcam drivers from the Device Manager.

a) Press “Windows Logo” + “X”.

b) Click on “Device Manager”.

c) Search for the Webcam device from the device list and right click on it and select “Update Driver Software” (It would be either under USB (Universal Serial Bus) devices or imaging devices).

d) Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation of the latest driver.

Hope this information will help you.
