My account is somehow region locked

I lived in Israel and moved to Sweden last year. The moment I signed in on my new computer, all links started defaulting to Hebrew. I don't even speak it well so half the time trying to figure out how to change the language back leaves me frustrated and irritated.

General info:

Have been living in Sweden for a year.

This is a brand new PC bought in Denmark, activated in Sweden.

I allowed my PC to sync during Windows setup.

Things I have done:
Changed the country, address and language preferences in "Your info" and "Address book" in my Microsoft account settings.
Turned on my PC’s location.
Set Sweden as the region in Windows during installation.

Turned off sync, deleted sync data.
Contacted support which told me someone will investigate, but haven’t heard back yet.

Whenever I click on any link from Windows settings, the page it pulls up is always the Hebrew version of the Microsoft page. I also keep getting emails in Hebrew whenever I log in and need to provide a code. It also kept logging me out of my Microsoft account, as well as out of my Google account (luckily has stopped happening).

Mind you, Google has switched my region months ago automatically, meanwhile I've been trying to solve this for three days now with no solution in mind.

What else can I try? Do accounts simply get region locked based on where you made them?

Hello Sofiia P,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I completely understand your situation, and I will try to assist you. Based on your description, when you open links in Windows, they redirect to a specific language version, but it's not the language you want to display. This situation may be influenced by two factors: network environment and language settings. Please avoid using network proxies or VPN services, as they may cause the wrong language version to be matched when accessing certain links. Secondly, language settings might be overridden. Windows language settings are one aspect, but software settings can also override them. If you are using Edge browser as the default way to open links, please open Edge settings -- Language, and check if Edge's preferred language matches your target language. If it shows Hebrew, please change it to the desired language.

Best wishes

Hi Leo, I should have included these in my original post but, I do not use VPNs or network proxies, and settings in Edge was amongst one of the first things I've changed.

I have decided to log out of my account on my PC and instead created a local account. So kind of sad, but it fixed the language problem. Therefore I believe there is some sort of error with my account specifically.

However, if there's anything else I could try, please let me know.

Thank you.

Sorry the first reply didn't address your concern, you clicked no help. According to your description, it may indeed be a problem with your account profile, you can check if your region and language settings are set to Sweden in your personal profile by logging into outlook on the web side. If it is, you can change it again in the settings to log in with that account. If that doesn't work, we suggest you create a new Microsoft account.

I hope the above information is helpful to you!

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Aaron

Hi Aaron. My settings have already been all changed to English/Sweden wherever possible.

I have also encountered another issue where recovery codes sent to one of my emails is in Hebrew, while the other email gets them sent in English. I even removed the email address that got them in Hebrew but it somehow still receives emails from Microsoft about my account whenever I log in, still in Hebrew.

Regardless, I wanted to ask if making a new Microsoft account will allow me to register my PC to it, as I assumed Windows is only registered to one account and can't be "moved" again.

As soon as you activate your device, you can register a new account and log in without being prompted for activation. You can sign in with your Microsoft account instead in Settings.

I hope you find the above information helpful!

Hi Sofiia P,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Information in your account may be stuck in a particular language state for some reason, leading to a subsequent series of mismatched language issues.

If possible, you may need to select the expected language preference for your account in account dashboard and then re-perform the process of removing and adding security information.
