MS SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition

My Secunia PSI software reports that MS SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition has reached its "End of Life" and will no longer receive security updates. It directs me to Windows update for a solution - but that leads nowhere.

Arbitrarily removing it is pretty much out of the question - I'm sure it was installed on my system for some reason and I am afraid of breaking things. My biggest worry - am I now vulnerable to malware? Am I supposed to upgrade MS SQL Server? If so, how? Any help whatsoever would be gratefully appreciated. I have been searching everywhere online including the Secunia PSI forum and BleepingComputer.com without any luck.

This question is outside the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure you get the best (and quickest) answer it should be asked either on Technet (for IT Pro's) or MSDN (for developers)

I have the same problem on Windows 10 Professional x64. I am not aware that I ever installed this SQL server and I have no option to uninstall it...

I just uninstalled it -- can't imagine that I'm running anything important that uses it.  If I find that I'm wrong, I'll report back here.

The "Installed date" matches the dates of other came-with-my-Dell-laptop software (i.e. the earliest installed date  on my machine).

Anyone else use Microsoft ExpressionWeb?  I could see that needing a fake SQL server for testing -- but the installed date is a few days later than that of the SQL package.

I'm also running 10 Pro x64.  Showed up in my CP >> Programs and features, and one click uninstalled it?

MS SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition is part of Windows Essentials 2012.

Do you have Windows Essentials 2012?

I don't *now* -- but, it might have come with my laptop and been subsequently installed.  Thanks!

As I recall, Windows Essentials... wasn't.  :-)

Uninstalling Windows Live Essentials uninstalled MS SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition.

Thanks for the hint! Apparently carried over to Win 10 in an upgrade from Win 7. Never used it or noticed it was there. :-)
