Movies & TV player not working today?

While it was working well till last night, it is asking for the personal videos to be played via media player:

Being the default player, upon double-clicking any personal video from Files Explorer, today a pop-up shows reflecting the said file(s) to be rather not existing?

Hi, I'm Elise, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

It could be an issue with a faulty update for the app or Windows.

Could you try use something like VLC player to open the files, to confirm the issues doesn’t lie with the files themselves?

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Kind Regards,
Elise

I suspect that the video file you are trying to play is no longer supported by Movies & TV after an app update. Do you know what format or codec it uses?

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

It sounds like Movies & TV player has lost it's default to the new Media Player. This may be due to an Update. I'll show you how to change it back or if that doesn't work how to troubleshoot the error you're getting or repair Movies & TV app:

1) Check in Windows Settings > Default Apps > Set default by App > Movies & TV, change Media Player to Movies & TV app, Set as Default. Now try opening a Movies & TV video again.

2) Try these fixes for the error Windows cannot find:

(Avoid ad links which intrude into editorial copy, especially DO NOT INSTALL Restoro, PC Repair Tool and Reimage ads)

If those don't help then 1) Try these fixes first for Windows 11 Movies & TV app not working:
