Move hiberfil.sys, pagefile.sys and swapfile.sys to a separate partition

I want to save space for my daily image backups by moving these files to a separate partition on my boot SSD.

hiberfil.sys 12.70 GB

pagefile.sys 4.75 GB

swapfile.sys 16 MB

Are there any issue doing this?

I have 3ea Samsung 980 Pro 2tb nmve pcie 4 ssd's. 1 of these ssd's is my boot drive. I have separate system and data drives, so 'C' has extra room that I'd like to use to create a new partition for these temp .sys files, then exclude that partition from my daily Macrium image backup. This would save about 18gb on my daily incremental BU.

I don't my let my pc sleep or hibernate.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

hiberfil.sys cannot be moved to another drive, it must be on the system drive (C), you can turn off hibernation if you want to save space on that drive and if you do not hibernate your PC

For the other files, you can move them to another drive..

Click your Start Button, then just type sysdm.cpl and press Enter

On the resulting dialog, select the Advanced tab

Click the Settings button in Performance section.

Select the Advanced tab on the second dialog

Click the Change button, then turn off the option to automatically manage the page file.

You can then turn off that on the C drive and set it up on the other drive.

Thanks Dave for the info.

I thought I turned off hibernation but I changed my screen setting the other day, so it must have initialized the setting.

Turned it off. Will see if it reappears.

Is there a way to disable hiberfil.sys in the registry?

I fully disabled the function thru the Power and Sleep function, and rebooted the computer - it created a new one with a current date and time corresponding the reboot time.
