Mouse lagging!

Why is my wireless mouse constantly lagging? This is such a basic function to a computer that I should not be having these issues with Windows. Absolutely no problems with Win7. Nothing but problems with Windows 10. I have tried EVERY one of the fixes suggested in the forum. Seems Microsoft refuses to consider this a serious issue. Tell me why I shouldn't revert to Win7 where my mouse doesn't drive me nuts. BTW I am using a MICROSOFT wireless mouse. I see NOTHING in WIN10 that even hints at why I should stay with it. FIX THIS!
Hi Thor. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

There are over a billion users of Windows 10 now so unless an issue affects millions they probably aren't even seeing it. For mouse lagging if the same problem happens with a completely different mouse then it's likely a system issue which I can help you go over.

1) Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

2) Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

3) If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I will try the steps you listed in #2. This is a self built machine with a clean, virgin install of WIN10 on a solid state drive. My frustration stems from the the fact that a mouse is such a basic piece of computer hardware that has been a ubiquitous part of any computer system for the last 30+years. Seems rather stupid that ANY operating system would require such tweaking and fine tuning to run such a basic device. Thanks for your assistance.

Thor, I agree but chances are it's not the mouse but something in the system or drivers that is causing the lag.

One way to test this for sure is to try another mouse. If it doesn't happen then it's the mouse itself. But if it does then it points at the System and the suspects I focused on in my steps above which have worked for many others.

If you want to complain to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. But Microsoft will not even see it here because this is a tech forums where we are mostly volunteers trying to help solve your problems.

I understand that Microsoft will not see my problem here. And I am just cynical enough to believe that posting on the consumer feedback hub will get nothing in response. It's my belief that Microsoft has become so ubiquitous that they can ignore what they deem as trivial issues with their product because so many consumers just accept it as par for the course. Witness the multiple fiascoes with the latest "updates" these past few months. They push us to adopt a new operating system by cutting off Windows 7 support (a very good system for the average user) only to turn out an inferior product. I have been using Win 10 for two months now and have yet to see ANY advantage. I know, I am ranting, but I have done everything suggested to no avail. Four different mice and I am even using at present a PS2 (read, it has a wire) mouse. Still lags. I have my original Win7 OS on a separate drive in this computer and when I set it to boot to that drive it loads seamlessly and works flawlessly. That tells me the mouse problem resides within Windows 10. It just baffles me that such a basic (the first word of BIOS) function is such an issue with a supposedly state of the art OS.  I'll either just live with the frustration of a lagging mouse or revert to Win7.

All that said, I do appreciate your help with this issue. Thank you.

Thor, I was waiting for a report back on results of the steps I gave you. This is interactive support where we give you steps to perform and then stand by to help perform them. You perform the steps and then report back results so if necessary we can give you more steps based on the results. Instead of reporting back results of steps you actually performed, you just repeated the problem over again without any indication that you'd tried anything.

What we have found is that in Windows 10 everything depends on the quality of the underlying install, the same reason enthusiasts have never run Factory or Upgrade installs because they know there would be endless issues.

For example there have been zero return problems by those who follow the gold standard Clean Install here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... It is better and faster than any previous version of Windows, and a better install than any amount of money could buy. So when you get time I'd study over that to see if it's something I can help you do.

I also gave you a checklist that if you work all the way through it will almost always find and fix problems. What were the results of the steps I gave?

What about your drivers and BIOS. The performance of the PC depends on them being the latest or best available. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is how to keep the latest manufacturer's drivers current. Windows Update drivers are never enough.

Please do not skip any steps. We often find out later that the fix was the skipped step. If you need help performing any step I will help.
