I noticed several postings over the past couple of years from people having the same or similar problem. One recommendation said to shut down, unplug and remove battery (from a laptop in one case). I shut down and unplugged my desktop (no battery removal), restarted, and the problem was solved.

Mine's an Asus X55LN.

My external keyboard stopped working even before the required restart.

Only external mouse worked after.

Reinstalled the ones with errors, didn't work.

Reinstalled with latest drivers manually, only the built-in keyboard worked.

Reinstalled all with errors again with latest drivers, now only externa keyboard is working.

All those done in-between restarts, ofc.

I fear nothing will work next time, so I'll just leave it there for now.

Please help, Microsoft.

UPDATE:

I installed the Creators Update manually through the Update Assistant.
Everything is working fine again.
