Monitor going to a black screen

My Monitor is connected via an Hdmi to VGA adapter, I can use it for about 1 minute before the screen goes black without any message and power singal blinking. How do I solve this? Could this be a problem with my adapter? Or Windows itself is having conflicts?

If your HDMI-to-VGA adapter cable includes a DAC (digital-to-analog converter) then the cable is either loose, damaged (most likely to be the pins on either or both ends) or the DAC is defective.

If your HDMI-to-VGA adapter cable doesn't have a DAC, you've got the wrong type of cable.

BTW: I don't work for Directly.

How do I check for DAC? It is a dell Hdmi to VGA converter, this one: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-video-adapter-hdmi-vga/apd/470-abzx/pc-accessories

The weird thing is that it works for a minute with native resolution and then it goes black forever, while lowering the resolution  and changing the refresh rate to a specific value fixes to black screen, but after a longer time ( in about 2 minutes) the screen blinks.

Only way to fix the native resolution black screen was replugging the cable, but gives the same problem

Thank you for the quick reply

Hello Mrsiri,

thank you for providing this question.
I am an independent Windows expert and user like you and hope to resolve your problems quickly.

First of all to rule out driver issues uninstall the graphic driver.
Do so from Apps and features and afterwards make sure to get rid of them from device manager too.
Then reboot to let Windows install what it thinks to be the best default.
If that alone is not enough you can run Windows update or install graphic card manufacturer provided drivers

That being done you can be sure that this side isnt the issue. Then try to swap the cable, the adapter (better yet do not use a digital to analog adapter as hdmi to vga is) or try the computer with another monitor or the monitor on another computer.
This way eventually you will certainly find the source of error.

If this didn't solve your problem or you need further assistance please answer in this thread and i would be happy to help.

kind regards

F. Grobusch

Thank you F. Grobusch for your reply. Driver reinstall or uninstall did not resolve it. This Monitor works fine on direct VGA connection and same cable on my old pc which had a VGA connection. It also works with direct connection on other computers. Same issue is occurring on anoter computer.

Then the problem is likely with the adapter if a direct adapterless connection works fine.

How do I check for DAC?

It's in the URL you posted. Yours has a DAC. If your computer is on the compatibility list (same URL) and it doesn't work properly then the cable is loose or broken.
