Monitor Display Problems

The set up is Laptop(XPS 9500 36gb) going into a WD19TB dell dock. Laptop and screen being used on the bottom with two 1440p displays above, BUT when set to THIS Configuration

The third monitor looks like this

If they are positioned like this in settings,

though the physical set up has not changed, they all display fully

just annoying to move cursor to right instead of above.

I have tried seemingly everything, anyone have an answer?

I feel this may be a dock issue. Its possible that its outside of its compatibility. Just as three displays from it can be outside of its range, even two may be of certain display specs or use.

If you didn't already might as well try the latest firmware https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=dptw0&oscode=wt64a&productcode=dell-wd19tb-dock

ie for wd19tb firmware

Enhancements:
- Supports Dell Dock WD22TB4.
- Improved the dock fan control behavior to reduce the fan noise.
- Improved the display compatibility related to combinations of host PCs and monitors.

At least its a dock that gets firmware updates. Many don't appear to even get any.

Yes, I have tried the updated firmware. And yeah I kind of suspected it was a dock issue as well. Just surprised there are no issues displaying when aligning them side by side in the display settings.

Hey, Greg thanks for the help. But, yes. Unfortunately everything is set up correctly as far as configuration according to these links and videos. The main problem is that if I simply click and drag the monitors in a side by side arrangement, they all display full, but this obviouslly isnt ideal because the are physically set up in a vertical stack. Hope this was a little more descriptive. I have already applied all firmware and updates to the dock and the laptop FYI

Thanks, Ian

Ian, to be sure: does the third monitor only display half the screen at all times, as shown in your screenshot?

Have you experimented with the cabling to see if you can narrow the issue down to the cable or port being used? Can you replicate the issue with the third screen on any other cable or port? Have you tried changing cables and ports?

If none of the steps I already gave work to fix that, then The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:

First make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

If necessary first remove the old driver using DDU https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-t... (not necessary with Microsoft Basic driver which is a placeholder if nothing else is available) and/or installing in Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet), or Safe Mode, accessed by one of these methods: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...
or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...
or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display. Set different resolutions for multi-monitors here:
https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/diff...

Check for a monitor drivers by expediting Windows Updates (including Optional Updates) in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates to install all Updates until no more are offered.

Different cables and ports have all been tested, it always the monitor above the laptop regardless or cable or port.

All available Windows updates have been installed. and all drivers were updated. Only thing left would be to completely remove drivers and re-install. Will let you know if that resolves anything.

After driver deletion and reinstallation im still having the problem. If the laptop is closed it will display perfectly fine to the two stacked monitors. Is it possibly a vertical resolution limitation on the dock or the Intel GPU?

I would ask Dell about the dock, maybe try another or test without it if possible. That would be my first suspect. Does it act as a splitter or in any way split the signal, as splitters are a main cause for multi-monitor display problems?

But almost equally suspect is always the display driver since it controls most of this. That's why I gave you everything possible to try for it including all previously installed and not yet sourced drivers.
