mmc.exe blocked

I am the administrator of my Surface Book running Windows 10 and with the latest insider build. I am being blocked from running mmc.exe. I am told to contact the administrator, so I have had a chat with myself and following the advice I gave myself ("check the internet for solutions") I have run sfc /scannow which found corrupted files. I then ran the DISM restore health thingy but this still did not fix things - I still cannot run mmc.exe. What do I do now?

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

It could be possible that the system files of the user profile account has gone corrupted.

You can try to enable the hidden admin account and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps:

1.    Type CMD in Windows search bar and run as admin.

2.    Copy and paste the command: net user administrator /active:yes

3.    Close the command prompt.

4.    Login to Administrator account and check.

If the mmc.exe is working fine in hidden admin account, then it would be the user account corruption issue.

You can try the following steps:

Method 1: Run Microsoft account troubleshooter.

Method 2: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

Please get back to us with the results.

Hi

None of that works

mmc doesn't work in the admin account, in fact I didn't have a separate admin account until the last pre-release update

The troubleshooter won't work properly either

My internet connection is fine

Any other ideas?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

Thank you for replying,

You can try to perform In-place upgrade of Windows 10. This will repair/replace the corrupted system files with new ones.

Before performing the In-place upgrade, we need an installation media (USB/DVD) of Windows 10. If you don’t have the media, you can use the following link:

·         Create Windows 10 installation media
