Mixed reality portal not working - asking to check for updates

I recently reinstalled windows so I could have a fresh install and wanted to install mixed reality, but had to upgrade to a insider preview to use it.

now that I have done that I installed MR and after going through the setup it got stuck at a part where it was downloading, the download got stuck at 43% for about an hour so I decided to give up and closed it I then restarted my pc and tried to open MR again.

Now it just keeps saying that MR needs an update and to check windows update but when I do it just says my pc is up to date, I have reinstalled MR a few times but it just goes back to that error message.

The build of windows I am running is windows 10 pro 1903 (OS Build 18362.53)

  • What is the make and model of the machine?

  • What is the exact error code/message you see upon download failure?

 

This could be due to the corrupt Update database on the machine. You may want to try the steps listed below to reinitiate the setup and check if it works:

 

  • Unplug your headset from your computer (both cables).

  • Open File Explorer and navigate to the following location:

    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

  • Select all the folders\files there and Delete them.

  • Restart your computer.
  • Go Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and make sure Windows Update is turned on. Then, download and install any updates that are waiting to be installed.
  • Reconnect your headset to the computer, and try the setup again.

 

If the issue persists, you may want to cross check the following:

 

Metered Connection:

If your Wi-Fi network connection is set to metered, change it to unmetered. Learn more
