Lets put it another way.
It has been a number of years since Windows 10 was released and there have been a lot of information given to the public about the update procedure and if they do not read it is not Microsoft's problem but their own.
My wife got Windows 10 when it was first offered to the public and the only 2 things have happened. First we got a new computer and moved the hadr drive from the old one to the new one. Note the new one had Windows activated. Then I upped her RAM to 8GB from the 4GB. She has never said that she has lost any files with all of the updates so far.

You say it is juvenile but have you read anything?
I have spent the last 4 3/4 years trying to help Microsoft to not make mistakes by testing things before they are released to the public. I have an idea that a lot of those "missing folders" are not missing but are located in another place.
What people assume is that the folders in Quick Access is where the folders are when the folders are really in C:\users\user name\folder name.
