Missing brightness slider Windows 11

Hello,

I am going to use the text of another person as it describes exactly what my problem is for my laptop Dell Inspiron 3505.

"I'd really like help, because none of the solutions I've found online that supposedly fix the issue work for me. Before anyone answers, the option to alter the brightness IS NOT THERE. Not in the settings menu through the Start button, not through the network area on the taskbar, nowhere. There is nowhere on my computer currently to change the brightness, only to enable to stupid night light. (Leeloofan: In my case the control buttons don't work either. They used to and all the others do)

I've checked the Group Policy settings, in which it was set on "not configured". I tried disabling it and restarting my computer, and when that didn't work I tried setting it back to "not configured" and restarting again. Nothing.

I've tried to update the Generic Monitor driver, but I'm already up to date. Even tried uninstalling the driver and having it reinstall itself after restarting my computer. Nope.

Finally, I went to try check the Registry value, and according to the guides, when following the path of--

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

--there should be a "NoDispCPL" option right below the "(Default)" (Type: REG_SZ, Data: (value not set)), which doesn't even exist. So I don't even know how to begin to address that if there is a solution to be had there. I'm hesitant to use that option anyone, due to the risk of irreversibly messing something up even if I create a back up registry."

I have tried exactly the same things and nothing works. It's really annoying not being able to control the brightness of my screen.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Lee,
I am Sumit here to assist you with this question.

Brightness is controlled by the display driver.

Please see the Display driver troubleshooting below:

Option 1: Try Rolling back the Display driver.

Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.

Navigate to Display devices and expand it. Right-click the Display adapter.

Choose Properties.

On the Driver tab, click the Rollback Driver button to go back to the previous version.

Option 2. Remove drivers completely and Install the newest ones available from the OEM or the maker.

What you need to do:

1. Uninstall everything of Display driver using DDU

2. Reboot.

3. Make sure your device manager shows Microsoft Basic Display adapter.

4. Run Windows updates and install the latest Display driver.

5. Wait for the process to complete.
