Microsoft Wireless mouse and keyboard lag in Windows 10

Hi.

I am experiencing significant lag on my wireless mouse and keyboard in Windows 10.  I specifically bought a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard thinking that it would be more compatible than the Logitech products I had previously.  I keep all my drivers up to date, and have tried all techniques listed in previous posts, with no success.  Please either point me to a fix that works or make this a priority as this technology is not new and this should not be even remotely a problem for you guys.

Sincerely,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To have clarity on this issue and guide you accordingly, kindly help us with the following information.

  • What is the exact model number of your wireless mouse and keyboard?

This usually happens if there’s a signal interference. If you’re using a Wi-Fi router, you may want to move it away from the keyboard/mouse receiver to see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to try the troubleshooting methods listed in the following articles and see if it works.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply Junaid!

I have a Microsoft 2000 mouse and keyboard combo.

My wireless router was sitting on top of my computer tower and have moved it...that seems to have fixed it so far...now that I think about the issue, it seemed to only occur when I opened a new web page in any browser...would make sense if it was the wifi that was causing the interference!

You have been the only one to have recommended this simple fix!

Thanks,

Bob

So the solution worked for a bit after I moved the router, but now it is back.  The keyboard isn't as affected, mainly the mouse...

I went through all the steps you suggested, most of them are trying to fix bluetooth connection problems, but I do not have bluetooth on my desktop computer, I am using the Microsoft adapter that came with the mouse and keyboard.

Not sure what is going on, but it is very frustrating to buy a product and not have it work as expected.

Bob

Hi Bob,

Seems like there is something else that is interfering with the signal. You may want to plug the USB receiver into a different port and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to use a USB extension cable and plug the receiver into it maintaining some distance.

Let us know how it goes.
