Microsoft Store is not available on my Windows 10 laptop

Hi,

Microsoft Store is not available on my Windows 10 Home laptop. (V1909; OS build 18363.836)

It is not on the start menu, it is not on the list of apps on settings\apps.

Windows Store Service is not in the list of services.

I am using a Microsoft Account.

Defender is my default antivirus program.

My machine has the latest updates.

I have an internet connection and 1920 x 1080 display.

I have run the troubleshooter for Windows Store apps and it couldn't identify the problem.

Date and time are set correctly.

When I run wsreset.exe I get a message that I "need a new app to open this ms-store link".

When I try to re-register the Store App with powershell I get an error message "Cannot find path 'C:\windows\winstore\AppxManifest.XML' because it does not exist.

I am not using a proxy server.

I have tried converting my Microsoft account to a Local account and back to Microsoft Account, but it did not change anything.

Please help,

Thanks,

KatoPeeps

Hello KatoPeeps,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I want to apologize if you encountered this issue. I understand you have a problem with Microsoft Store missing. When was the last time you have Microsoft Store? Did you made any changes recently?

**Run the troubleshooter:
Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then from the list select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter.

**Reset the Microsoft Store cache
Press the Windows Logo Key + R to open the Run dialog box, type wsreset.exe, and then select OK.
Note

A blank Command Prompt window will open, and after about ten seconds the window will close and Microsoft Store will open automatically.

If it doesn't work Press WIN+R to open Run then type: %appdata%
On the address bar click AppData > Local > Packages
Look for the folder Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe and renamed it to Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe.old

Procceed to Uninstall then Reinstall Microsoft Store

Uninstall the Store:
Press Windows key + X
Click and Run Windows PowerShell as Administrator
Now Type: get-appxpackage *WindowsStore* | remove-appxpackage
Enter then proceed to reinstall Store

Reinstall the Store:
Press Windows key + X
Click and Run Windows PowerShell as Administrator
At the command prompt, copy-paste the following then hit Enter:

Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Launch again your MS Store

I hope this helps! Kindly inform me if my suggestions does not solve the problem. I can provide another solution for you to try.

Sincerely

Hi John,

Thanks for the very prompt reply.

I last used the store nearly a year ago. Since then my computer crashed for an unknown reason. When this happened I was forced to reset my computer. I suspect that either the crash or reset caused me to loose the Windows Store.

I have run the troubleshooter for Windows Store apps and it couldn't identify the problem.

When I ran wsreset.exe I got a message that I "need a new app to open this ms-store link".

I tried what you suggested “to open Run then type: %appdata%” etc.   In AppData > Local > Packages there was no folder called “Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe “.

I ran the code to uninstall the Store but got no feedback.

I ran the code to reinstall the Store but again got no feedback. In each case the cursor just disappeared for a moment and then returned to its “home” position: C:\WINDOWS\system32>.

So, unfortunately your suggestions did not solve the problem.

Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Many thanks for your support.

Hi John,

I'm afraid we're not there yet!

In your previous message all went well in part 1.

In part 2 all was OK until I got to "Click the ADD button". There was no ADD button. But if I clicked "Continue" there was a greyed-out "ADD" button.

Please advise how to continue.

Thanks,

KatoPeeps

Hello KatoPeeps,

If still doesn't work, Please try to Perform a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade. It will definitely help in resolving update errors. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while preserving your personal files, settings and installed applications. The in-place upgrade will also bring you the latest Windows update.

**Few things to check on the PC

Important: Back up your personal data and files to an external hard drive, USB thumb drive, or cloud location (such as OneDrive) before you begin any reinstall of Windows 10 just in case something went wrong.

Ensure you are signed in or have administrator rights to do a repair install

Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting

Disable or uninstall any 3rd party Anti-Virus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade

Please NOTE: You don't need to follow the instructions to turn off Secure Boot

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further concerns.

Thanks John,

I think it's possible you may have omitted a step or a half step in part 2 of your previous instructions because the ADD button was missing when I followed your guide. I wonder if you could check this if you don't mind.

Let me know what you think.

If necessary I will Perform a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade, but I will only do this as a last resort if I really have to.

Many thanks for all the trouble you are taking.
