Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000 microphone faulty (?)

The other day I was using my headset to talk to my friends when they said my microphone started to sound staticky and cut out. Then, it cut out completely for about a full day. The headphones themselves worked. Now the microphone works for 5-10 seconds every few minutes, but generally does not work. The headphones still work completely fine.

I know this isn't an issue with the headset itself as it works fine on my friend's computer, but I've tried everything suggested in other threads and nothing seems to be working. I've looked for driver updates, disabled then re-enabled drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. I've boosted the level settings in recording devices and unchecked 'allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'. My mic is the default device and is enabled. I've ran my troubleshooting software on hardware and devices and recording audio and my computer cannot find any issues.

The issue is not localized to a single application.
