Microsoft LifeCam HD 3000 microphone not working

I bought the LifeCam hd3000 today. The software installed correctly and the camera gives an excellent picture. The only problem I am having is the microphone will not work in any program. The mic is set as default device and shows up in system properties.

My computer is self built.. My specs are as follows.

Microsoft windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Service pack 1, with all important updates

Motherboard is Asrock G31M-S R2.0

Processor is Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @2.66GHz

4GB ram, Duel channel

Graphics card is Nvidia GeForce 8400

Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Answer

Hello Burt,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

As per the issue description you are unable to use microphone of your LifeCam. The issue could be if some settings get wrong or drivers needed for the device is outdated/corrupted. Try the below mentioned steps and see if it works.

Method 1.

Try to run in-built troubleshooter and see if it works. An automated troubleshooter is a tool that can find and automatically fix some problems with your computer. These troubleshooters aren't designed to fix every problem, but they're a useful tool to try because they can often save your time and effort.

You may refer to the following link for running the troubleshooter: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter

Method 2.

If issue still persists try to boot the computer in clean boot and see if it helps to verify if any third party application service or startup item is causing this issue. Try to install the driver in clean boot state and check.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.
