Microsoft Flight Simulator can’t open because it cannot be found. The storage device might be missing or disconnected.

This is the error I get when I start from the start menu. In the store under "Installed" when I click on Launch nothing happens.

Timeline before this: I downloaded the game to C: it worked fine. Moved the app to D: - it worked fine. Both C & D are on the same internal M.2. Made a restore point for C. Next day FlightSim found 10 GB of updates it wanted to download. I wanted to wait with that because of my crappy connection where I am now. I also changed where it wanted to download to from C to D and exited the game. I then restored C: to the restore point I had made the day before when everything worked fine. This because I had played around with some unrelated things I wanted to get rid of.

What do I do? Was thinking of reinstalling Windows and start from scratch, but downloading 100GB takes forever, and when I know I got it already on D:\WindowsApps which I am denied access to! Any help would be appreciated.

I have a similar issue too. I have had to use a restore point from the day before my down load. Now I can't do anything with this app. I can see it but cannot launch.

Hi, I did get my MSFS to go again, Had to download the installer for MSFS (1.5 GIB), once that was done, MSFS installer asked where to install, direct it to the original location and it as done in a minute.

I don't know what sequence of buttons I pushed within the MS Games menu, but after pressing the Play button, all of a sudden FS launched and began reinstalling.

I do recall I noticed that the digital game certificate was not installed so I reinstalled that too.

Upon installation completion, I rebooted for the 50 th time, relaunched and had to reinstall all the content from that menu.

The more troubling issue at hand is, Why did I have to go through a full days worth of screwing around?

All I wanted to do is practice some crosswind landings as we had a really nice windy day here in Chicago.

I have the same issue.

Had to do a systems restore, and now I get this error message.

The MS Store shows MSFS as installed, but the PLAY button gives me a little blue window with this error.

Have reported to Zendesk.. will let you know if I get it fixed..

A reinstall was the solution.  No response from Zendesk...

I now believe that if you ever moved the MSFS "App" and the install is connected with symbolic links which MS uses,  a systems restore will break those links and you are lost...

It would be nice if MS were more forcoming with information about these things..

Instead we get to stumble through, hoping that we can fix the situation.

The upside, you are able to do a re-install and get the game working.

There appears to be a downside too.

It would appear the devs took away the ability to install to a seperate drive.

When I did the initial install, I was able to install to D:. This time, I could not change the drive letter not the path.

There's good reasons to install to a separate drive. Everyone has there own valid reason.

We deserve to have the ability to install to whatefer drive we wish.

I had the same problem and came across this suggestion from wezzMonster on Reddit. It worked for me:

I decided to randomly check the Microsoft store, not the game pass beta, and noticed there were multiple items waiting to be installed (Download icon upper right).

Clicked that, sure enough after scrolling i saw that all the games I had already installed and giving issues (outer worlds and AoE 2) were showing "need repair".

I clicked the games and it was asking me to reinstall. After a few seconds it did a thing and I was able to launch normally.

Figured I'd comment and hope that helps you or someone else out!

Thanks.

I eventually did have to reinstall.

Since the last update, i csnt get to the main menu after a flight!

Probably going to have to waste a day reinstalling again. But I will ck the game store first yhis time and see if theres a repair option.
