Microsoft account - "+" in email address

I wanna change my email address registered for Microsoft account. But my new e-mail address contains plus (+) sign (e.g. *** Email address is removed for privacy ***) and Microsoft does not accept it. What can I do?

Note: Categorization of this post is most probably wrong, but the dropdowns below don't contain categories I need (Microsoft account).

Hello,

See the following

Tips for creating strong passwords

Retry typing the password.  Are you sure you are typing a + or possibly you've typed = instead.

If you've confirmed you've typed the correct character I'd suggest changing the password.

I'm pretty sure I'm typing + (not =) because email addresses, unlike passwords, are visible while typing.

When you created the address was it as an alias to your primary account?  You cannot log in using an alias account.

But I don't have any issues with my GMail account. I have problems with Microsoft accepting my valid GMail e-mail address as my e-mail address for my Microsoft account.

Are you able to log into Gmail with this email address?

Is the Gmail address the primary account?

If you haven't already, log into Outlook.com

Add Gmail address as an Alias account

Next, choose Gmail address as the primary account

Try the solution listed here for switching Microsoft Accounthttp://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-ecoms/change-microsoft-account-email/f2727052-12f3-4f02-8fb6-9ea50eea8e3c

I've edited your post to remove the screen shot.  Your email address is private and should be kept from public view.

I cannot login to GMail with exactly this address because it's an alias address. I can login to GMail however with the address which this address is alias to.

I cannot add the GMail address as aliasto outlook.com. It's complaining that "Your email address can contain only letters, numbers, periods (.), hyphens (-), and underscores (_). It can't contain special characters, accented letters, or letters outside the Latin alphabet."

ImageI believe the solution mentioned at the link you provided is for W8+ only. because on my Windows 7 WinKey+W does nothing.

After a little bit of research I found RFC-5322 which in section 3.2.3 clearly specifies that left part (left from @) of e-mail address in it's unquoted form can contain plus (+) character (and others), so Microsoft by refusing valid email address which contains plus (+) character violates the spec.

You may be correct re: Winkey + W.  It opens Charms to reveal search bar

In your case - go to Start > Type in Search Bar

Yes, I listed it earlier in this link  Tips for creating strong passwords
